The Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers had a LCM dual meet today in Gainesville, with the Auburn men and Florida women claiming victories. This was Florida’s third long course dual meet this season.
Women’s Meet
The Florida women had a dominant performance, defeating Auburn by a score of 192-108. They were led by Jess Thielmann, Natalie Hinds and Georgia-Mae Hohmann, who collectively won seven individual races. Thielmann won both the 400 (4:21.96) and 800 freestyle (8:50.26), and was 2nd in the 200. Hohmann won both the 100 (1:03.12) and 200 (2:14.69) backstroke events, and was also 2nd in the 200 IM. Hinds stole the show, going 3-for-3 with wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. She was also on the winning 400 free relay.
Also picking up wins for the Gators was Amelia Maughan (200 free), Taylor Katz (200 fly) and Ashlee Linn (200 IM). They also swept the diving events, with Emily Mosher winning the 1-meter and Kahlia Warner winning the 3-meter. Florida gained lots of points in the diving events, as they went 1-2 in the 1-meter and 1-2-3 in the 3-meter.
The Auburn women struggled against Florida, in what turned out to be a bit of a mismatch. Auburn had a good start going 1-2-3 in the medley relay. They then turned to Annie Lazor, who swept the breaststroke events, going 1:11.10 in the 100m and 2:31.66 in the 200m. Teammate Lloyd Travalon finished 2nd in both. Along with the breaststroke events, they were strong in the 50 free and 100 fly, finishing 2-3-4 in both.
Men’s Meet
#7 Auburn came in and upset #4 Florida today in a close battle, 154-145.5. Joe Patching and Michael Duderstadt were standouts for Auburn, each winning two individual events. Patching won the 200 back (2:04.27) and 200 IM (2:04.85), while Duderstadt swept the 100 (1:04.44) and 200 breaststroke (2:23.12).
Also picking up individual wins for Auburn was Hugo Morris in the 400 free and Luis Martinez in the 100 fly. They also received a boost from their divers, as Justin Youtsey won the 1-meter and Scott Lazeroff won the 3-meter. A big momentum boost for the Tigers was the 200 medley relay, which started the meet off. They went 1-2 in 1:42.46 and 1:42.49, with Florida having to settle for 3rd (1:42.79).
The Florida men had some good swims, but it just wasn’t enough to get by Auburn. Caeleb Dressel won both the 50 and 100 freestyle, in times of 22.49 and 50.94. Also picking up wins was Jan Switkowski (200 fly), Corey Main (100 back), Arthur Frayler (1500 free), and Pawel Werner (200 free). They also took the 400 free relay in 3:24.01, including a 49.96 split from Dressel.
Florida is in action next Saturday in Tennessee, and Auburn is in action next Friday at home against Florida State and Wisconsin.
