Day 1 At The 2024 Paris Olympics: Non-Swimming Megathread

Today, July 27th marks the first day of Olympic competition. Some sports began their competitions last week, but for the sake of the next 16 days, those will all be considered “Day 0”. Here are some of the top storylines of the day outside of swimming, feel free to use the comment section to discuss below.

Olympic Schedule July 27th

Outside of swimming, another 8 sports will give out gold medals on Saturday night. Diving will host the final of women’s synchronized springboard.

Flavor Flav Sponsored US Women’s Water Polo Team To Take On Greece

The US women’s water polo team will take on Greece at 9:35 am eastern standard time (EST). The team will make their debut. Back in May, American rapper Flavor Flav sponsored the team as they made their way to Paris for the competition. The team will look to start out strong in hopes of winning their 4th gold medal in a row.

Football Continues After Beginning Wednesday, July 24th

Football, known in the US as soccer, continues after beginning this past Wednesday. France currently leads Group A, Iraq leads Group B, Spain leads Group C, and Japan leads group D. Each group has 4 teams in it and only two will advance out of the group stage and into the quarterfinals.

Men’s Gymnastics Qualification Begins For Artistic Events

The US men will begin their quest for their first medal since 2008 as qualification begins while the women’s begins on Sunday.

AUS swimmers can breathe a sigh of relief as they won’t be saddled with responsibility of providing their country’s first gold. Grace Brown (silver at the past 2 Road Worlds) went one step better and won the women’s Road cycling Time Trial by 1min 30sec under rainy conditions and a wet and somewhat slippery course which brought a number of riders unstuck.
