Carter Walles Transfers from Pacific to CSUB.

Carter Walles has announced that he will transfer from Pacific to California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), beginning in the 2020-2021 season. Walles spent 1 season with Pacific in 2018-2019 before sitting out the 2019-2020 season.

“I am excited to transfer to CSUB to continue my athletic and academic career. Huge thanks to everyone who has been apart of my swimming career past, present and future. Grateful for the opportunity from Coach Chris and Gray. Go Runners!”

Walles said that he spent the year off back home in his native Washington State training and working while deciding where to go next.

“Deciding to transfer was very difficult,” Walles said. “I appreciate everything Pacific did for me in my time there. There was a lot of change within the program at Pacific. But more so for myself it was important to take a step back for a year to re-evaluate the needs of me and my family. So I’ve spent this year back home in Washington State working and training while looking for a new opportunity. In the end I found what is going to be a really great fit.”

Walles swam under head coach Peter Richardson in his freshman season at Pacific before Richardson left to become an assistant at the University of Arizona.

He will have 3 years of eligibility remaining.

“We’re excited about Carter’s decision to join the Roadrunner family,” said CSUB head coach Chris Hansen. “He fit in so well with our team during his recruiting trip that I almost forgot he was a recruit. “Walles is a versatile performer expected to make an impact in a number of events at CSUB. He is capable of swimming breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and medley events for the `Runner’s.”

“What excited us about Carter is that as a transfer he is already aware of the work that needs to be done to be successful at this level,” Hansen added. “His events are exactly what we need to fill some voids in our line-up next fall.”

Walles is originally from Lake Stevens, Washington, where he was a 4-time Wesco District Champion.

Tuition for out-of-state students at CSUB was $16k a few years ago. Did they decrease it significantly or is the $8k figure for in-state. 8k would be a steal for out of state tuition at any school.

It was $1,200 a quarter when I was a freshman and topped around $1,600 my senior year (in state). But that was back when they were on a quarter system in 2007-2011 prior to the transition to the current semester system. Either way, a lot less expensive and a good fit for CSUB.

CSUB is part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange so for anyone coming from another state that is part of the exchange (such as Washington) the tuition would be at most 150% of the in-state tuition.
