BOSTON – Competing it its first home duals since November, the Boston University women’s swimming & diving team topped Colgate and Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at FitRec Competition Pool.
The Terriers downed the Raiders by a score of 188-111 and defeated the Stags, 160-139, to improve to 4-3 overall and 2-2 against Patriot League competition.
Senior Sophia Souza swept the diving events, posting a 270.30 in the 3-meter before earning a winning score of 273.45 in the 1-meter.
Junior Stella Langenbach touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.75) while classmate Haley Newman took first in the 100-yard butterfly (58.25).
Sophomore Izzy Valantiejus (1000 free, 10:41.49; 500 free, 5:10.33) and senior Keilah Eckhart (200 fly, 2:08.99; 100 fly, 58.42) each secured a pair of runner-up finishes.
Newman, senior Summer Brainin, junior Janhvi Choudhary and Langenbach teamed up to place first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.86) to secure the sweep.
BU will return to action next weekend with a two-day dual against Boston College as the Terriers will host the diving portion on Friday (Jan. 17) at 5 p.m. before the Eagles host the swimming on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 11 a.m.

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving team upped its dual win streak to four by sweeping a double dual with Colgate and Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at FitRec Competition Pool.
The Terriers improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League after downing the Raiders, 217-73, and topping the Stags by a score of 169-30.
Freshman Giovanni Sullo swept the distance events, winning the 1000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 9:34.57 before taking first in the 500 in a time of 4:40.02.
Senior Jed Tan took first in the 100-yard butterfly (50.22) and also had a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle (21.32).
Junior Tony Ponomarev won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.48 – a season best – while senior Nathan Herman (200 breast, 2:07.73) and junior Ben Cho (50 free, 21.28) also added victories.
The Terriers swept the relays as freshman Abraham Lee, senior Andy Carlson, Tan and Cho claimed first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.33) before sophomore David Kohan, Lee, senior Pier Bressan and senior Keegan Duffy closed the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.16).

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs picked up a split in today’s tri-meet, sweeping Colgate University and dropping decisions to Boston University.
The Stags men’s team eclipsed the Raiders by a 223.0 to 70.0 score while the women posted a 186.0 to 114.0 win. Against the Terriers, the Fairfield men’s team was edged by a 169.0 to 130.0 count while the women’s team came up short by a 160.0 to 139.0 count.
Andrew Cataldo picked up two of the two team’s 13 first-place finishes, sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. The sophomore earned a NCAA zone cut with his performance on the 1-meter board, tallying 304.70 points which was the only total to surpass 300 points in the event. He completed the sweep by posting 276.10 points in the 3-meter dive, winning the event by nearly 20 points. Joseph Stewart and Ed Hunt also garnered two top spots, with Stewart taking the 200 free (1:42.18) and the 100 free (46.39) and Hunt securing the 200 fly (1:53.16) and the 200 IM (1:54.61).
On the women’s side, Tone Sandsjoe and Erin Hoyland collected a pair of wins in their respective events as Sandsjoe dominated the breaststroke and Hoyland saw her success come in the freestyle. Hoyland the touched the wall first in the 1000 with her time of 10:33.54 and in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.16. Sandsjoe registered the top time in the 100 by completing the distance in 1:04.62 and the 200 by garnering a time of 2:25.36.
The Stags opened the event by netting the best time in the women’s 200 medley relay (1:45.81) behind the efforts of Erini Pappas, Tone Sandsjoe), Lara Kisakol, and Olivia Thompson). Pappas would come back a little later to earn her own individual first-place performance, taking the 100 back in 58.43. Thompson also garnered a first-place swim by winning the 50 free with a time of 24.63.
Fairfield started a run of three straight weekends that includes dual meets over the next two weekends. The Stags will travel to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Iona College on January 18 before hosting UMass on January 25 at the RecPlex Pool. Against UMass, diving will begin at 11 am followed by the swimming event starting at approximately 1 pm.

BOSTON – MG King and Audrey Collins captured a pair of victories each to lead the Colgate women’s swimming and diving team in its return to the pool on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Raiders shined in the 200 Yard competitions, which saw all four individual victories. King landed first-place finishes in the Freestyle (1:54.95) and Backstroke (2:02.35), while Collins hauled in gold in the Butterfly (2:08.62) and Individual Medley (2:06.62).
King’s victory in the 200 Backstroke clocked in two seconds faster than their closest competitor from Boston University. The sophomore edged Boston U’s swimmer by just under two seconds in the Freestyle victory.
Collins earned a narrow victory in the Butterfly, edging BU’s second-place finisher by just .3 seconds. She finished atop the IM leaderboard by two seconds faster than her nearest competitor from Fairfield.
Ellie Sundin shined once again on the diving board, landing a second place finish in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 238.40. She earned her second podium finish with a third-place tally in the 3-Meter Dive, registering a score of 239.80.
Regan Hau and Natalie Hofer earned podium finishes with a pair of third-place ranks in the 100 Breast (1:08.59) and 200 Breast (2:29.24), respectively. Hau, Collins, King, and Elizabeth Rainey fueled the 200 Medley Relay team to a third-place time of 1:47.61.
The Raiders fell to Boston University, 188-111, and to Fairfield, 186-114, in dual-meet action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mascarinas shined in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, clocking in with a time of 58.14 to take first place honors. The first-year beat out his nearest competitor from Fairfield by nearly a full second. Mascarinas also garnered third place in the 200 IM, turning in a time of 1:57.00.
Szypula found his success in the 200 Yard Backstroke, securing gold with an impressive time of 1:52.30. He edged out Boston U’s second-place finisher by just over three-tenths of a second to take the top spot at the podium.
Michael Granin, another first-year enjoying strong success this season, garnered a podium finish after clocking in with a third-place time of 4:54.49 in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
Colgate fell to Boston University, 217-73, and Fairfield, 223-70, in the dual meet action.
