Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Madison Smith from Brookeville, Maryland, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Michigan’s class of 2027.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Michigan!! I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for helping me get to this point. I can’t wait to be a part of such an incredible team! GO BLUE!!💙〽️”

Smith specializes in distance freestyle and was named to the “Best of the Rest” section of our Way Too Early list of top recruits from the high school class of 2023. She swims for Good Counsel High School and Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and is a Winter U.S. Open qualifier in the 200/400/1500 free and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 800/1000 free.

She recently competed at the 2021 RMSC Holiday Invitational and updated nearly all of her times. She won the 200 free, 500 free, and 1650 free, was runner-up in the 100 free, and came in fifth in the 100 fly and 200 IM. She dropped 7 seconds in the 500 free and 18 seconds in the mile, and also earned PB in the 100 free and 100 fly.

She now sports SCY best times of:

This summer, Smith won the 400 free at NCSA Summer Championships. She was third in the 200 free and 1500 free and seventh in the 800 free. She also swam in prelims of the 100 free and 100 fly, and finished the meet with lifetime bests in the LCM 100 free (58.27), 200 free (2:03.79), 400 free (4:17.31), 1500 free (17:01.06), and 100 fly (1:04.68). Smith will join the Wolverines with fellow class of 2027 verbal commits Hannah Bellard, Anna Boemer, Mattea Sokolow, and Taylor Morris. With the graduation of Sierra Schmidt last year, Michigan’s distance group is led by junior Kaitlynn Sims and first-year Kathryn Shanley. Schmidt (15:51.09) and Sims (15:57.80) finished third and fifth in the 1650 free at 2021 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships.
