Evgeny Rylov Wins 2021 Silver DOE Award Within Native Russia

Russia’s Evgeny Rylov, double Olympic champion from this summer’s Games in Tokyo, Japan, has been honored with the Silver DOE award for 2021.

The annual Silver DOE awards are held by the Russian Federation of Sports Journalists for Russian athletes and coaches who have distinguished themselves over the past year. 25-year-old Rylov reaped gold across both the 100m and 200m backstroke events for the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

This is the second time Rylov has been bestowed the DOE trophy, already having earned one in 2017 after he reaped gold in the 200m back at that year’s FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Rylov’s resume of accolades has been building throughout his career. In 2018 he was named GQ Russia Magazine Sportsman of the Year, an honor which he shared again this year with 4 other Russian athletes.

Additional 2021 DOE award winners from the aquatic realm include Paralympian Adrei Kalina, artistic swimming athlete Svetlana Romashina and the entire Russian artistic swimming team.

Previous swimmers who have won the Silver DOE previously included Alexander Popov (2003), Anastasia Zueva (2011), Yuliya Efimova (2007, 2010, 2013, 2019), Vlad Morozov (2014), Evgeny Rylov (2017) and Kliment Kolesnikov (2018.
