Ben Kimmel from Academy Bullets Verbally Commits to IUPUI

Ben Kimmel, a senior at Lake Park High School in Rosella, Illinois, has given a verbal commitment to IUPUI for the 2020-21 season. Kimmel specializes in backstroke, butterfly and IM and swims year-round for Academy Bullets Swim Club. He is a Winter U.S. Open qualifier in the 100/200 back and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 fly and 200 IM. Kimmel placed 5th in the 100 back (50.17) and 7th in the 100 fly (49.91) at the 2019 IHSA Boys State Championships. He also swam butterfly (22.70) on the 200 medley relay in prelims. After high school swim season, Kimmel competed at NCSA Spring Championship in the 50/100/200 back, 50/100 fly, and 100/200/400 IM. He finished 24th in the 200 back and earned PBs in the 50/200 back and 100 IM.

This summer Kimmel finaled in almost all his events (200 free, 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM) at Illinois LSC Senior Long Course Championships. He also swam at NCSA Summer Championship in most of the same events and took home a PB in the 100 free.

The IUPUI men finished 4th at 2019 Horizon League Championships, 1 point out of 3rd place. Kimmel would have scored points for the Jags in the A final of the 200 back and the B finals of the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
