For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ryan Soria, a current high school senior from San Antonio, TX, has committed to swim for DII College of Staten Island. The Staten Island Dolphins were awarded NCAA DII status earlier this year. Soria says that he is the first male swimmer to receive and accept an athletic scholarship from the team since its change to DII.

Soria currently swims for the Alamo Area Aquatic Association and will graduate from Johnson High School in May 2020. He will join Staten Island’s class of 2024 under head coach Trevor Loomis.

Soria is a 3-time Texas Region VII-6A 100 backstroke finalist. He swims backstroke on his team’s medley relay and is the anchor for the 400 freestyle relay.

I could not be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to the College of Staten Island! I want to thank God, my family, friends, coaches, and my teachers for guiding me along the path that I Have wanted to follow my entire life! I also want to thank Athletic Director Charles Gomes, and Coach Mike for believing in me and allowing me to be the first recipient of a swimming scholarship at CSI!I am excited to be spending the next four years of my life swimming and studying at CSI. Fear the Fin!”

At Staten Island’s Metropolitan Swimming Championships this year, Soria would have made finals in the 100 backstroke and placed 13th with his current best time in that event (54.48).

Staten Island placed 12th as a team at the 2019 Metropolitan Swimming Championships.

Soria will begin his swimming career at College of Staten Island beginning fall 2020.
