Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Naperville, Illinois’s Max Goettsch sent a verbal pledge to the University of Texas for the 2025-26 school year. He made his commitment in November, 5 months before Bob Bowman took over as head men’s coach of the Longhorns.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Texas! I want to thank my family, Coach Mike, Coach Dave, the @fmcaquatic coaching staff and my teammates. I would also like to thank Coach Eddie Reese and Coach @wyatt.collins for this amazing opportunity! 🤘#hookem”

Goettsch is a rising senior at Naperville Central High School. He swims year-round with FMC Aquatic Club and specializes in the shorter end of the freestyle event range.

In February, he notched PBs in the 50/100/200 free (20.41/44.42/1:38.26) at the Illinois High School Boys’ State Swimming and Diving Championships. He placed 4th in the 100 free and 5th in the 200 free and swam on both freestyle relays, helping Naperville Central finish 11th in the team standings with 61 points. A week later, he dropped another half-second in the 200 free, finishing in 1st place at the 2024 Illinois Swimming Winter Senior Championships. He also finaled in the 50 free (6th) and the 100 back (10th) and earned a PB (50.64) in the latter.

So far in 2024 long course season, he has achieved PBs in the 50/100/200/400/800 free, 100/200 back, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM. Of those, he has Winter US Open standards in the 50 free (23.54), 100 free (51.78), and 200 free (1:53.32) and Futures cuts in the 100 back (58.98) and 200 back (2:10.57).

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 20.41
  • 100 free – 44.42
  • 200 free – 1:37.61

Goettsch will begin his career as a Longhorn in the fall of 2025 with fellow commits Andrew Shackell, Clem Camacho, Evan Conti, John Simmons, Michael Gorey, and Rafael Fente-Damers. Texas moves to the SEC in the 2024-25 season, leaving behind the Big 12 where they dominated in swimming for all 28 years they were members.
