Manaudou Edges Out Grousset To Wrap Up FFN Golden Tour Nice

2022 FFN GOLDEN TOUR NICE (FRA)

The FFN Golden Tour stop in Nice wrapped up today with another rather subdued day of action.

Olympic gold medalist Florent Manaudou raced his second event after having taken on the 50m fly prelims on day 1 of this competition.

Today in the men’s 50m free, Manaudou established himself as the top-seeded swimmer with a morning effort of 22.67. That edged out domestic teammate Maxime Grousset, the 100m freestyle winner here, who just missed lane 4 with a prelims swim of 22.84.

Come the night’s final, Grousset gained some ground and nearly overtook 31-year-old Manaudou, with the pair only separated by .03. Manaudou ultimately wound up on top in 22.42 while Grousset clinched silver in 22.45.

Algerian national record holder Jaouad Syoud put up a solid men’s 100m fly performance tonight, topping the podium with a mark of 52.75. He owns the national record at the 52.08 he clocked in July of last year at the French Summer Championships.

On the women’s side, although Czech athlete Barbora Janickova touched the wall first in tonight’s 100m free final with a time of 56.19, the fastest swim of the day came in the morning. Racing in the 1free heats, American Linnea Mack beat the field easily with a prelim time of 55.13. She would later opt out of the final of the event.
