Teigen Detta has announced her decision to continue her academic and athletic career swimming under the direction of head coach Geoff Hanson at Southern Illinois University. She will swim for the Division I team beginning in the 2021-2022 season. Detta is in her senior year at Mount Baker High School.

Detta is currently a team captain for the Bellingham Bay Swim Team, where she has been swimming for 10 years. In August of 2019, she competed at the Futures Championships in Mount Hood. She swam the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back. She finished 100th, 64th, and 80th, respectively.
Her final meet of 2020 was in late-January. She was unable to attend any competitions due to the pandemic but recently swam at the BBST 2021 Kickoff in February. She swam the 50, 100, and 200 free, and the 100 back. She swam mostly closely to her best time in the 100 free, touching in 53.93.

Southern Illinois University was the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference runner-up, finishing second to Missouri State University. Senior Kierston Farley-Sepe won the 200 and 400 IM and the 200 fly, and was named the Swimmer of the Year. She broke conference records in both IM events.
Detta’s times would have placed her in the C-final of the 100 back and 100 free and the B-final of the 200 free at the conference champs.
She will be joining Meesha Montgomery and Ali Robertson as a member of SIU’s class of 2025.
