Swimmers are competing in day 2 prelims of the 2018 Men’s NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This morning’s action kicked off with prelims of the 200 free relay, which saw American Record sprinter Caeleb Dressel stepping up for his first race as he raced for the Florida Gators. Dressel put in a 17.96 split for the Gators on the 2nd leg, helping them win their heat and qualify 3rd for the final.
That split marked Dressel’s 6th time breaking 18 on a relay. He owns the fastest split ever with his 17.71 from last season’s NCAA meet. The only other man to have broken 18 is USC’s Vlad Morozov, who was the first swimmer to do so at the 2013 NCAA meet.
Sub-18 50 Free Relay Splits:
- 17.71- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2017
- (T-2) 17.86- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2017
- (T-2) 17.86- Vlad Morozov (USC), 2013
- 17.90- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2017
- 17.92- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2018
- 17.96- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2018
- 17.99- Caeleb Dressel (Florida), 2017
Dressel’s split was the fastest of the morning. NC State’s Justin Ress (18.52), Harvard’s Dean Farris (18.57) USC’s Santo Condorelli (18.66), Texas’ Joseph Schooling (18.69), and Indiana’s Blake Pieroni (18.69) round out the top 5 rolling-start splits of the morning. The fastest leadoff split came from NC State’s Ryan Held in 18.87. Auburn’s Zach Apple (18.98) also cracked 19 on the leadoff.
Actually went 17.81
Okay but if you read the entire headline (not even the article) you’d know you were reading the prelims post… where he split 17.9.
Why was the Pacific Relay pulled and teams reserded?
Split on relay only .15 faster than flat start this morning. Not an expert but that’s not how it’s supposed to work. Look for a 17 mid tonight
Michael Andrew 18.85 in prelims this morning.
dont downvote that >:(
I think it’s safe to say, the times are way off at this meet. Every single swimmer going under seed time in the 50?
I don’t think so
I hope that pool is like 24 yards long. (Because Liberty is a bad place.)
Well then, explain that to him, don’t downvote
The timing system is off there. It was a very good swim but the timing system is roughly reporting times .4 faster.
Dean-o just revving the engine on that split
OK, time for something big, I want to see 17.5
