World Championships silver medalist Yui Ohashi put on a show in the women’s 400m IM to close out her 2018 Japan Swim campaign, cranking out a menacing 4:30.82 for the gold and a new national record. Beating the field in Tokyo tonight by over 6 seconds, Ohashi sliced about a half a second off of her own previous national standard of 4:31.42 set at this same meet last year.
Ohashi’s Previous Record Splits:
1:01.69
1:08.30

Within the current world rankings, knowing world record holder Katinka Hosszu has taken a hiatus from competing, Ohashi sits way atop the throne, with a comfortable 4-second gap between herself and the next fastest swimmer this year Aimee Willmott of Great Britain.

Gold and silver female medalists at Junior World in 400 IM were Japanese. The small group of Team Japan was very good – heard they could not bring all of their qualifiers because of National High School LCM champ, which is very elite level.
augurs well for Tokyo 2020
The Japanese will offer a solid challenge to Usa at Pan Pacs – and thats great !
