The following is a press release courtesy of the College Swimming & Diving Honors:
Annapolis, MD. – The 2013-14 College Swimming & Diving Honors have been announced. In all, twenty athletes, teams or coaches are being recognized for their outstanding performances during the 2013-14 collegiate swimming and diving season. The University of Georgia (SEC) leads the way with four honors and another seven honorable mentions. The University of California, Berkeley (PAC12) received three honors in addition to eight honorable mentions. Also, Stanford (PAC12) is being recognized for three honors and four honorable mentions.
The open nomination process for the 2013-14 season concluded on April 30th, 2014. Coaches, athletes and sport administrators submitted nominees for a sample of categories including Career Improvement, Break-Out Athlete, and Most Exciting Dual Meet. A new category, Most Exciting Race, was added for this year where Cal’s Missy Franklin (200 Free, NCAA) and Georgia’s Chase Kalisz (400 IM, NCAA) are being featured for their tremendous swims back in March. In all, hundreds of athletes and/or teams from over 100 institutions were nominated for their achievements. Nominations were then organized into a survey. The opportunity to cast a vote from within the list of nominees opened on April 30th and ran through late May as the number of voting participants more than doubled in 2014. The survey is used as a guide to determine the College Swimming & Diving Honors.
