On the 3rd day of the Sacramento Futures Championships, Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics 16-year-old Kelsey Zhang kept it rolling. After a big swim in the 400 IM on Thursday night, Zhang was back in action in the women’s 100 fly on Friday night, where she won in a time of 1:00.53. The performance came in just off Zhang’s career best of 1:00.10, which she set in May of this year. Fellow 16-year-old Sage Miller, a product of Iolani Swim Club in Honolulu, HI, came in 2nd with a 1:00.95. That was a huge personal best for Miller, taking nearly a full second off her previous mark of 1:01.75, which she swam just last week at the Hawaii LC Age Group Championships.
Once again, 46-year-old Gabrielle Rose continued to impress. The veteran of the 1996 and 2000 Olympics took the women’s 200 breast by exactly 2 seconds, swimming a 2:30.60. The swim came in just off her lifetime best of 2:30.13, which she swam at the US Olympic Trials last month.
DART Swimming 16-year-old Remo Mann won the men’s 200 breast in 2:18.02, clipping his previous best of 2:18.34 from March. He swam a steady race, splitting 31.18 on the opening 50m, then clocked splits of 35.50, 35.75, and 35.59 respectively the rest of the way.
In the men’s 100 fly, Rose Bowl Aquatics 18-year-old Logan Noguchi, a Princeton recruit, won with a time of 53.67. It was a great swim for the future Tiger, marking his first time under 54 seconds in the event.
Speaking of first times, Las Cruces Aquatic Team’s Savannah Skow, 16, took the women’s 400 free in 4:19.44, which marked her first time under 4:20 in the event. Moreover, Skow entered the meet with a career best of 4:26.61, a time which she swam last summer at the Western Zone Senior Championships. Skow is also a Princeton recruit.
Princeton swimmer Arthur Balva, representing Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics, won the men’s 400 free in 3:58.51. That swim was Balva’s first time under 4:00 in the event, bettering his career mark of 4:00.82 from this meet last year. Flatiron Athletic Club 16-year-old Gavin Keogh came in 2njd with a 3:59.97, blowing away his previous best of 4:08.85.
In the women’s 400 free relay, Olivia Detter (57.69), Llew Ladomirak (58.25), Audrey Chung (57.53), and Kelsey Zhang (57.08) combined to earn the win for Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics in a time of 3:50.55.
The men’s 400 free relay saw Rose Bowl Aquatics’ Ray Liu (51.71), Logan Noguchi (50.03), Ryan Makouar (53.10), and Nathan Kim (50.58) combined for a 3:25.42 to claim victory.
