China looks to sweep all eight diving events at the 2024 Paris Olympics and so far has gone six for six. Xie Siyi captured gold for the Chinese in the men’s 3m springboard event on Thursday.
Xie defended his gold medal from Tokyo as he won there in a final score of 558.75 points. He scored a total of 543.60 points today. He led after the first round, fell to 3rd after round two, but climbed his way back to the top to lead after the final two rounds. His highest scoring dive came in the final round as he scored a 100.70.
Teammate Wang Zongyuan defended his silver medal from Tokyo as he won silver again today. Wang had a final score of 530.20 points. He held the lead temporarily from rounds 2-4 after passing Xie in round 2. Wang’s highest scoring dive came in the final round as well as he scored a 102.60, the highest scoring dive of the day for any competitor.
Mexico’s Osmar Olvera Ibarra won bronze with a final score of 500.40. He was in 3rd for most of the competition, with the exception being after round 2 when he was 2nd. He earned Mexico the 2nd diving medal in Paris. He notably competed in the event in Tokyo but did not advance to the final after finishing 14th in semifinals.
