William & Mary Women, Davidson Men Pick Up Wins In Split

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary’s women’s swimming team enjoyed a 148-114 win over Davidson Saturday afternoon at the Bee Mcleod Rec Center in Williamsburg. Senior Katie Stevenson made the most of her final swim in the rec center with three total first-place finishes.

The Tribe women got off to a hot start as Kat VanbourgondienAnnie TuttleSophia Heilen, and Katie Stevenson paced all teams with a time of 1:43.22, while Caroline BurgesonEllie SchererLindsay Juhlin, and Brooke Lamoureux swam second with a time of 1:45.67.

RESULTS

In the 1,000 distance swim, it was Devin Genderson with the second-best time of 1:32.05 followed by Kelsey Katt as the Tribe took two of the top three spots. Stevenson’s second victory, and first individual win of the afternoon came in the 200 free with a blistering time of 1:50.90 and Grace Tramack finished third.

Vanbourgondien continued her impressive afternoon with a first-place time of 56.97 in the 100 back to extend the Tribe’s early lead. Scherer and Tuttle swam one, two in the 100 breast with times of 1:05.04 and 1:05.94 respectively claiming the top two spots.

Heilen’s blistering time of 2:02.43 was just off a Tribe dual meet record to claim first in the 200 fly and Lauren Klinefelter finished third in the distance butterfly event. The Tribe took three of the top four times in the women’s 50 free as Lamoureux finished second followed by Burgeson and Sydney Querner.

In the 100, it was Stevenson again, this time with a 50.92 time to win the event while Querner placed second. Vanbourgondien took home another first place finish with a time of 2:05.26 in the 200 back.

Tuttle and Scherer swapped places with the senior taking home first place in the 200 breast, Elizabeth Intihar earned a third place time in the 500 free. Heilen and Klinefelter placed second and third respectively in the 100 fly and Peyton Proffitt earned second in the 400 IM.

Stevenson, Burgeson, Querner, and Lamoureux ended the meet with a second place time in the 200 free relay.

Next up the men’s and women’s teams will have a week away from competition before heading to Charlottesville for the Cavalier Invitational February 3-5 as a final tune-up before the CAA Championships February 22-25 in Hampton, Virginia.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Dylan Felt won two events, set two records and led Davidson in the water Saturday afternoon at William & Mary.

A freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Felt set a Davidson record in the 1,000 free with a winning time of 9:24.07. He also set a William & Mary pool record with his 500 free win (4:31.58).

In all, the Wildcats won 16 events Saturday and also earned a 148-113 men’s team win.

“Good outings for the ‘Cats,” said coach John Young. “Dylan gave us a couple more highlights, and it’ll be nice to see his name up on the William & Mary record board with (former Wildcat) Sarah Helen Shepherd’s. Other highlights for the Cats included big relay splits and big 50s for Guil Ware and Martha TripsaCynthia Huang had a really nice 400 IM. Ben McClain looked good taking care of business in the 200 and 100. It was a really nice 200 fly for Fletcher Smith, and Miles Charles and Shelby Stanley had well-swum 100 butterflies. Nice 1,000 for Sylvia Stewart-Bates, and a nice 1-2 in the 500 for Kate Pottle and Sylvia. Jeremy Kemp again in the back. Overall, a really solid outing.”

Felt was also part of a third win, teaming with McClain, Ian Brann and Ware to win the 200 free relay in 1:24.21.

McClain claimed his 100 and 200 free wins with swims of 46.55 and 1:41.47, respectively. Other men’s wins came from Charles (100 fly, 50.12), Kemp (200 back, 1:51.60), Smith (200 fly, 1:51.50) and Ware (50 free, 21.37). Liam McDonoughAndrew Schou, Charles and Ware swam out front in the 200 medley relay (1:32.31), and Owen Curry’s second-place swim gave the Wildcats a 1-2 finish in the 1,000.

For the Wildcat women, Stewart-Bates earned the win in the 1,000 with a time of 10:25.14, and she helped the Wildcats go 1-2 in the 500, as Kate Pottle won in 5:05.74. Tripsa won the 50 free in 24.11, Stanley took the 100 fly in 55.60 and Huang touched first in the 400 IM (4:30.70).

Addy DonaldsonLeah Sandock, Stanley and Tripsa won the 200 free relay in 1:35.52.

Divers compete at South Carolina
Davidson’s divers faced off against South Carolina Saturday in Columbia, S.C.

For the men, James Gourlay took third in the 1-meter and 3M with scores of 270.53 and 297.15, respectively. Annica Valmassei led the women with fourth-place finishes, scoring 267.68 in both events.

The Wildcats will host VMI for Senior Day next Saturday afternoon in Cannon Pool.
