A sweep of the relays helped propel the Wayland High School boys to the MIAA Division II State Championship title on Saturday after the meet was delayed by a week due to a snowstorm.

The victory for Wayland snapped a three-year winning streak for rival Weston High School, which finished as the runners-up 53 points back.

Opening the meet in the 200 medley relay, the Wayland quartet of Brady Foley (25.93), Alex Lu (27.26), Peter Morris (22.59) and Luke Kroncke (21.24) combined to claim the win by a tenth in 1:37.02, with Weston finishing as the runner-ups in 1:37.12 with a 20.94 anchor from Alex Jylkka.

In the 200 free relay, Wayland’s squad of Aidan Huang (22.23), Cole Snyder (22.12), Lu (22.01) and Kroncke (21.61) posted a time of 1:27.97 to earn the win by more than seven-tenths, topping Weston (1:28.69) which had a 21.96 lead-off from Jylkka and a 21.34 anchor from Nate Whitworth.

To close things out in the 400 free relay, Wayland had all but clinched the team win, but punctuated things as Morris (48.69), Snyder (49.13), Braden Leichliter (50.22) and Huang (48.25) combined for a time of 3:16.29, holding off Grafton High School (3:16.49) which nearly ran them down after senior Braedon Ando anchored them with a blistering 44.98 split.

Ando, a TCU commit, was one of two swimmers to sweep their individual events, as he won the 200 IM (1:52.45) and 500 free (4:30.05), setting a new Division II Championship Record in the former.

In the 200 IM, Ando’s time of 1:52.45 broke the meet record of 1:52.74 set by Medfield’s Quinn Borchers last year. Ando owns a best time of 1:52.26, set in November.

The other double winner was Seekonk senior Nick Cavic, who defended his title in the 200 free with a clocking of 1:38.30 to break the Division II meet record of 1:39.27 set by Weston’s Eric Nilsson back in 2005.

Cavic, who set a PB of 1:37.89 in the 200 free in December, also won the 50 free in 20.85, just over two-tenths shy of his best time from December (20.63).

Weston’s Jylkka was the runner-up to Cavic in the 50 free in a best time of 21.43, and he was also victorious in the 100 free with another PB of 47.66.
