HAMPTON, Va. – The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee University women’s swimming team secured the RMC Invitational Title on Sunday as they registered two first place finishes and five second place finishes.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- The Blue and White claimed the team title, recording 1,785.5 team points across the three day meet. Salisbury finished in second with 1,729.5 points while Randolph-Macon turned in a third place finish with 1,026. Catholic finished in fourth with 998 points while St. Mary’s (Md.) rounded out the top five with 454 points.
- The Blue and White clocked in two first place finishes during the third day of action. Celia Bredehoeft finished in first place in the 1,650 freestyle, posting a meet record and ODAC-best time of 17:34.38. Maria Jellig clocked in a time of 2:04.40 to finish in first in the 200 backstroke. Her prelims time of 2:04.08 is the fastest time in the conference this season.
- Vivian Pickeral clocked in the second-best time in the ODAC this season in the 200 backstroke, finishing in second place with a time of 2:05.87. In the 100 freestyle, Myla Rice finished in second place with a time of 53.08s. Her time ranks first in the ODAC this season.
- Morgan Smith competed in the 200 breaststroke, posting a time of 2:22.75 to finish in second place. Smith’s time is the top mark in the ODAC this season by almost three seconds. Bella Tarbet rounded out the top finishers for the Blue and White, clocking in an ODAC-best time of 2:07.19 to finish in second place.
- Rice, Faith Sconing, Marcy Mortimer and Tarbet teamed up in the 400 freestyle relay to cap off the meet. The squad clocked in a time of 3:33.73, the top mark in the conference this season, to finish in second place.

HAMPTON, Va. – Leaving no doubt about the weekend’s top dog, the Salisbury University men’s swimming team rolled to victory in the seven-team, three-day Yellow Jacket Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at the Hampton Aquaplex.
The Sea Gulls capped the long weekend with a whopping 1,942.5 points, over 500 clear of second-place Washington & Lee (1,408.5).
PRELIMS
- Advancing to the finals of the 200-meter backstroke were: Gabe Erb (1:52.22, first), Robert Krouse (1:53.21, second), Lucas Mitchell (1:53.84, third), Daniel Grigoryev (1:55.57, fifth), and Nick Corcoran (1:58.17, ninth).
- In the 100-yard freestyle, the Sea Gulls saw through: Michael DeSimone (46.55, fifth), Mason Potts (46.61, sixth), Owen Brewer (47.14, seventh), and Themo Rigakos (47.40, ninth).
- The 200-yard breaststroke made finalists of: Brady Wolf (2:04.71, first), Brody Hanlon (2:05.79, second), Aidan Loehr (2:07.77, fifth), and Dominic Kazzi (2:10.16, 10th).
- In the 200-yard butterfly, SU produced finalists in: Christopher Knorr (1:53.07, second), David Zea (1:56.22, fifth), PJ Gorman (1:56.99, seventh), Lucas Mitchell (1:57.60, eighth).
FINALS
- Matt Merke emerged victorious in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching up in 16:04.02, over five seconds faster than second place. Ethan Lloyd (16:15.59) and Kyle Skelly (16:25.35) finished third and fourth, respectively.
- Gabe Erb (1:53.56), Robert Krouse (1:54.29), and Lucas Mitchell (1:54.45) swept the podium in the 200 back.
- Mason Potts grabbed another medal in the 100 free, placing second in 44.83.
- Brady Wolf won the 200 breast in 2:03.27, with Brody Hanlon taking second in 2:05.34.
- Christopher Knorr captured gold in the 200 fly in 1:51.50, while David Zea took the bronze in 1:56.75.
- The Sea Gulls finished the invitational with another spectacular turn in a relay, snagging two of the top three slots in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Potts, Themo Rigakos, Michael DeSimone, and Owen Brewer won the race in 3:02.37. Coming in third at 3:08.29 were Aidan Loehr, Dominic Kazzi, Christopher Knorr, and Kyle Skelly.

The Sea Gulls will conclude the first half of their schedule at home on Saturday, Dec. 7, against St. Mary’s (Md.). The first event from Maggs Pool is scheduled for 1 p.m.
