In the 1st year of Class 6A’s existence, the American Fork girls and Lone Peak boys came away with state titles. Lone Peak was pretty dominant in the boys scoring, coming in 150 points ahead of runner-up Pleasant Grove. The American Fork girls won only 1 of 11 events on their way to winning the title, while Lone Peak’s boys took 6 events.

Lily Plaudis (Kearns) won a pair of individual events, taking the 200 IM and 100 breast by a combined 11.12 seconds. In the 200 IM, Plaudis went the fastest breaststroke split (35.87) in the field by 4 seconds, and finish well over 5 seconds ahead of runner-up Kenzie Chesler (2:12.14), who also won the 100 back in 1:00.64. She then won the 100 breast by 5.64 seconds, an even bigger margin than she won the IM by. Her time was also the fastest from all 4 Utah state meets this year. Also, both her times were lifetime bests.

Jordan Tiffany came away from the meet with 4 event wins, coming in the 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 fly, and 200 free relay. In the 200 medley relay, Tiffany split a 27.01 on the breast leg, and combined with Josh Ries (23.31 back), Braden Tiffany (23.18 fly), and Jake Mickelson (21.55 free) to win in 1:35.05, which was also the fastest of all 4 state meets. He then went 1:56.25 in the 200 IM, coming in as the only swimmer under 2 minutes, and best his brother Braden, who came in 2nd (2:00.85). In the 100 fly, Tiffany went 50.74 to beat runner-up Greg Simonsen, who went 51.85. He then led off the 200 free relay with a 22.29, followed by Johnny Condie (22.03), Boyd Abernathy (22.27), and Bryant Karratti (21.34) to finish 1st in 1:27.93.

Brian Christofferson also won a pair of individual events, taking home titles in the 50 and 100 free in lifetime bests. Christofferson won a tight race against Josh Ries in the 50, touching the wall 1st in 21.34 to Ries’ 21.65. His time was the fastest out of the Utah state meets. He then went on to win the 100 by 1.5 seconds over David Aamodt, 46.67 to 48.17.
