USC Adds U.S. Olympic Diving Trials Qualifier Gabby Filzen (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Gabby Filzen will continue her studies and join the diving squad at the University of Southern California this fall. A 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier in the 10-meter platform, she graduated from Perkiomen Valley High School in Pennsylvania. Currently, she trains year-round at the Ripfest Diving Club in Noblesville, Indiana, under coach John Wingfield.

While in high school, Filzen was the runner-up at the 2022 Pennsylvania 3A State Championships in the 1m event, scoring 424.15 points. She was also a finalist at the Junior National Championships that year, placing 8th and 9th in the girls’ 16-18 age group in the 3m and 1m events, respectively.

In 2023, Filzen was a finalist at the U.S. Diving Nationals, placing 13th in the platform event with a score of 453.10. She also represented the U.S. at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China, and was selected for the 2023 USA Diving High Performance Squad as a Tier Three Senior Athlete. Filzen, a platform specialist, ranked 6th during the Platform finals at the Games with 247.80 points.

Filzen secured 2nd place at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials in the Synchronized 10m Platform event alongside her partner Bailee Sturgill, scoring 494.13 points. They finished behind Olympians Delaney Schnell and Jessica Parratto, who took 1st place.

With most of USC’s divers being upperclassmen, Filzen’s arrival will be timely. USC finished 2nd last season at the Pac-12 Championships, where graduate student Nike Agunbiade, a two-time Pac-12 champion, won the Platform event with a score of 353.60.

Freshman Lily Castanon placed 3rd at the Championship with 286.35 points, and senior Farrah Volpintesta finished 8th in the A final. Junior Grace Lee (234.35) and senior Allison Ward (205.95) competed in the B final.

Filzen will join swimmers Alexa Wong, Cornelia Fox, Lily Dormans, Isabella Schneider, and Julia Huffmaster as part of USC’s 2024 recruiting class.
