UIW Record-holder Cassie Phillips to Finish Remaining NCAA Eligibility at SDSU

Cassie Phillips will extend her collegiate swimming career at San Diego State University while earning a master’s degree, she announced on social media.

“So so excited to announce that I will be continuing my swimming career while completing my masters at San Diego State University these next two years. Swipe to see how excited I am to be an Aztec🤍”

Phillips graduated from Round Rock High School in Texas in 2017 and went to swim for University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. As a freshman she won the B final of the 100 fly (54.79) and placed 15th in the 200 fly final (2:06.74) at the 2018 CCSA Championships. She also swam the 50 free, finishing 35th (24.34). The next year, she was 5th in the 100 fly (54.70), placed 11th in the 200 fly (2:04.52), and tied for 14th in the 50 free (23.79). In the summer of 2019, Phillips underwent shoulder surgery and when she was finally cleared to swim again, COVID-19 struck. She finished her UIW career with a bang this past season, though, winning the conference title in the 100 fly with a UIW program record (53.50), coming in 5th in the 50 free (23.24), leading off the 200 free relay with 23.07, splitting a 23.45 butterfly on the runner-up 200 medley relay, and placing 9th in the 200 fly (2:08.47). With a cumulative GPA of 3.99, she was named CCSA Women’s Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Best SCY times:

  • 100 fly – 53.50
  • 200 fly – 2:04.50
  • 50 free – 23.05
  • 100 free – 51.21

The Aztecs came in third at the 2021 Mountain West Conference Championships. Phillips’ 53.50 would have won the conference title by .08. She would have scored in the B finals of the 50 free and 200 fly.
