The 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games are set to see the swimming portion of the multi-sport, elite international event kick-off on Wednesday, December 4th. However, several sports have already seen their timing and venues get changed up due to a powerful typhoon whose journey included heading the Philippines’ way.
Typhoon Kammuri has forced SEA Games organizers to reschedule about half of the sporting events that were scheduled for today, Tuesday, December 3rd, as the storm made landfall late yesterday. The outdoor events, such as beach volleyball, softball, baseball, skateboarding, and surfing were most directly affected, but 16 sports in all had to be postponed, according to Channel News Asia.
“We are prepared to take the necessary precautionary measures to secure the safety of all of our guests and athletes,” SEA Games organizers said in an official statement.
Additionally, the statement reads that the Games will not go beyond their scheduled finish of December 11th, despite the postponements.
Approximately 8750 athletes are expected to compete at this 30th edition of the biannual event. Through yesterday’s events that were able to be conducted, the host nation of the Philippines topped the overall medal table with 90 pieces of hardware thus far.
Where can we find the results?
