Two-Sport Athlete Ben Gerhard Verbally Commits to Georgia Tech for Swimming

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Reading, Pennsylvania’s Ben Gerhard has announced his intention to swim for the Georgia Institute of Technology beginning in the fall of 2022.

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgia Tech! Thanks to all my family, friends, and coaches for helping me accomplish my goals in and out of the pool! Go Jackets🐝!!”

Gerhard is a junior at Governor Mifflin High School where he swims and plays water polo. The Reading Eagle reported that Gerhard opted for swimming over water polo in college, saying “Both swimming and water polo have been huge factors on the athlete that I am today. I decided to pursue swimming because at the end of the day it is what I love more. I have been swimming for as long as I can remember and it also holds a huge importance in my family. As many know, my grandfather was the head coach of Gov. Mifflin High School swimming for a very long time before passing away. I have always believed that whenever and wherever I am swimming, I am honoring him and continuing his legacy, and it is very important to me that I keep doing so.”

Gerhard has had great success with water polo, having twice been named Berks County Player of the Year and having been selected to the all-state first team in each of the last two seasons.

In swimming, he is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 500 free. He placed 4th in the 500 free (4:31.71) and 9th in the 200 free (1:40.11) at 2020 PIAA Boys 3A Swimming & Diving Championships. This season, he Gerhard was runner-up in the 500 free (4:30.84) and took 3rd in the 200 (1:38.87) at the state meet.

Gerhard does his club swimming with Governor Mifflin Aquatic Club.

Top SCY times:

  • 500 free – 4:30.25
  • 200 free – 1:38.87
  • 100 free – 49.32

Gerhard will join Adam O’Brien, Cade Martin, Stephen Jones, and Will Coady in the Yellow Jackets’ class of 2026.
