TopTenTweets: Regan Smith Called Her Shot in the 100 Back

Welcome back for another round of TopTenTweets and this time, it’s all about the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials that just wrapped up in Indianapolis, IN. Swimming Twitter is at it’s best during a big meet, and you didn’t let us down this week. It was tough to narrow it down to just ten entries, but here’s what we’ve come up with (plus an honorable mention for a theme of the week).

Honorable Mention:

There was a lot of discussion online this week about the “J. Crew ad campaign curse.” Has it taken over from the SwimSwam photo curse? Please discuss.

10. Caption Game

“Your favorite backstroker’s favorite backstroker” immediately put this post from Navy in the top 10.

9. Backstroke Bears

Fun fact: Cal-trained swimmers take up 100% of the backstroke spots on the men’s Olympic roster.

8. Bringing Paris to Indianapolis

This isn’t so much about the tweet itself as it is recognizing that whoever came up with “Louvre-cas Oil Stadium” deserves as an award.

7. Cause for Celebration

And then in semifinals, Zach Harting Zach Hartinged a 100 fly even faster.

6. KL Doing KL Things

AND she became only the second swimmer in history to win an event at U.S. Olympic Trials four times.

5. Please Not Another Commercial Break

Speaking of Katie Ledecky doing Katie Ledecky things, it would be lovely to see her entire race.

4. Deleting Records

Nobody was happier than Josh Prenot to see the 200 breast American record go down.

3. Ryan Murphy’s Butterfly Side Quest

The SwimSwam comments section if Ryan Murphy had made the team in the 100 butterfly would’ve been incredible.

2. Exposure Therapy?

Even though the open water swimmers were racing in a pool last week, that doesn’t mean they weren’t still preparing.

1. The Power of the Post-It

Here at TopTenTweets, we usually make it a rule to avoid using Stories. But we’re making an exception this week because this is just too good.

Wait, not airing the entire 1500 reminded me:

I forget who everyone in the original ad was. I think it was Smoliga, Leah Smith, Litherland, Dare Rose, and then I don’t remember.

Hopefully Curzan took the curse on this one.

Drew Kibler was the only one who survived the curse.

Well, if one swimmer survives out of each J. Crew ad campaign, Douglass should be fine since Curzan took that hit.

Was pretty sure is was White over Leah Smith but I could be wrong about that. But Natalie Hinds and Drew Kibler (as someone already mentioned) as well

White and L. Smith both would have fallen to the curse. I don’t think Hinds swam at Trials (not sure why).

Swimmers seem to be a superstitious bunch, so if I were a swimmer at that level (I wish), J Crew would have to produce a very large check since it seems that appearing in their ad does not result in success.

About Sophie Kaufman

Sophie Kaufman

Sophie grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, which means yes, she does root for the Bruins, but try not to hold that against her. At 9, she joined her local club team because her best friend convinced her it would be fun. Shoulder surgery ended her competitive swimming days long ago, …
