The women’s meet was canceled because of weather: Texas is currently experiencing widespread power outages due to snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The Washington Post reported that over 300,000 customers in the Midwest and eastern USA.
According to WFAA, Dallas got 2 inches of snow on Friday morning and the Weather Forecast Office is reporting a ‘hard freeze warning’, which is in place until at least 9 AM on Saturday. They also warned that temperatures are still expected to fall between 5 and 10 degrees.
The dual against SMU will be the men’s team’s final racing opportunity before Big 12 Championships, which will begin on February 23, 2022. The women on the other hand have another meet scheduled this weekend, the Sterkel Classic, against Rice.
The Sterkel Classic is the University of Texas women’s team’s senior day meet and is scheduled to take place at 2:00 pm CT on February 2, 2022, at home in Austin. Should it go ahead as planned, the Sterkel Classic will be the women’s team’s final meet before Big 12s on February 23.

Check back in later tonight for a recap of the men’s meet.
The Texas women have had a terrible schedule this year. Barely any meets. Bad planning, bad luck.
Men lead off with 1.23.00 in the medley, lowering their best time in the nation.
Wow. Grimm 20.79 👀👀
So the men’s meet is scheduled for today too? Is the weather going to improve drastically before then or something?
Concurrent meets. Very strange.
How is the mens happening but not the womens?
I’m thinking the women want to make sure they are back in town for their senior meet on Saturday. The men don’t have another opportunity to race and if they get stuck in Dallas, they aren’t missing anything.
Looks like it was SMU’s Senior Day 🤷♂️
