Landon D’Ariano has announced he will transfer to NC State for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. D’Ariano just finished his freshman season at Texas.
D’Ariano was one of eight men from Texas to enter the portal on the day that it opened. He did not swim at SECs for the team despite being an ‘Honorable Mention’ ranked recruit coming out of high school. D’Ariano is the second freshman to transfer out of Texas as Jeremy Kelly announced he will join Notre Dame this fall.
Although he did not swim at SECs, his best times would have scored at the meet. He swam a lifetime best of a 3:42.20 at the Texas vs Texas A&M dual meet at the end of January. That would have made the ‘B’ final at SECs. His best time of a 1:44.76 from midseason in the 200 fly would have been just off of making the SEC ‘C’ final.
D’Ariano’s Best SCY Times:
- 200 IM: 1:45.87 (Midseason)
- 400 IM: 3:42.20 (Dual meet vs Texas A&M)
- 200 fly: 1:44.76 (Midseason)
The NC State men finished 3rd at ACCs and went on to finish 9th at 2025 NCAAs. Quintin McCarty led the team with 15 individual points at NCAAs.
Based on his best times, D’Ariano is a boost in the IM group. His 400 IM would have been #2 on the roster this season only behind Kyle Ponsler who won the NCAA ‘B’ final in a 3:37.42. D’Ariano’s 200 IM and 200 fly times would have been #4 on the roster. D’Ariano was also not far off what it took to earn an invite to 2025 NCAAs as it took a 3:41.61 this season in the 400 IM. This was much faster than last seasons’s 3:42.93 cutline.
Eddie Reese genuinely represents everything good about swimming. He’s the purest soul and I’ll never not appreciate him prioritizing his swimmers and their wellbeing over results (and still got better results than any other coach ever)
A shame how profound the difference is between him and Bob. @bobthebuilderrocks this is something we can both agree on re Texas
100% Yes.
Maybe people will wonder less why Corbeau didn’t go back to Texas now….
So he went to Ray instead? Yeah ok 😂
Eddie told Caspar to go to Ray.
The same Ray that was on Eddie’s “No” List for candidates to take over after he retired? Yeah, ok
I worked in LSC governance as an athlete rep for a while, and we did a leadership summit one time for about 25 kids around the LSC. On a whim like a week before the summit, we sent an email directly to Eddie (because we were in high school and didn’t know better) asking him if he wanted to zoom in and speak to the kids about leadership and recruiting, and to our surprise he responded literally within hours and said “Yes, when and where?” He showed up on Zoom, gave the best motivational speech on leadership I’ve ever heard to these kids, and seemed genuinely interested in all of them and their questions. He’s the best.
I’m sure the first thing Bowman would have asked is how much am I getting paid.
Can I get his email? LOL!

Thinking why no transferees go to Cal
Durden is saving his roster spots for the 25 year old international transfers mid season.
Cal will be looking at the waiver wire for sure – welcome to the new norm for most and same old same old for cal.
How Bob has treated athletes he cut is actually awful. I’m glad this young man found a home at a program that actually cares about him.
Holloway cut freshmen at the end of the season too.
Everyone is cutting, it’s how you do it that I think people are upset with Bob.
I get that too. No details on how other schools are handling it any differently. People want to swim for Bob. Eddie Reese operated under a different set of rules. This is now the new post-House world. You have 22 spots and you have to fill them with the 22 best people you can.
This is now the third time this has been said about NCState and their roster cuts.
But we havnt seen them show up anywhere in the portal articles.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who is interested in who was cut. Especially since they seem to be bringing in a large class with transfers.
I know one kid personally as he grew up swimming with my son. I’m not going to reveal his name here because that’s not my place. I know another kid who got cut at Indiana after his freshman year just recently.
Is anyone surprised that the coach who didn’t tell his athletes in person that he was leaving and who announced he was leaving the day the team got back from winning NCAAs doesn’t really gaf about his athletes?
Teams in the sec will be looking for people who can score at ncaa in a minimum of 2 events if they want a chance to continue to be top 3 at NCAA, just how the new world works. I think it would’ve potentially been different had he been recruited by the new staff but potentially not.
another monster out of germantown academy. when will they stop producing these beasts!?
It stopped when Coach Donny Brush left the program in December 2023. Fortunately, Germantown will get an upgrade in coaching now that HC Jeff Thompson is leaving before they had to let him go.
“Shoutout to Eddie Reese …..” Maybe Bob has endorsed Eddie helping those swimmers (on the men’s side) who need to find other homes (cut? on the bench? whatever). Sure hope so. Otherwise, not a good look for that program.
Shockingly enough, he apparently just tossed them to the curb and they all sought help from Eddie. the only one with a real heart at Texas.
How would Eddie have cut the roster size from 41 to 22? It’s interesting that everyone is villainizing Bob but Eddie would’ve done the same if he was still coaching with the roster limitations.
Nope. He would have cut them after the season and they wiuld all still be training with the team. Roster caps don’t start until next year – af the point of the first meet.
And you don’t think the swimmers who were cut after NCAAs wouldn’t be on here with complaints about how he’s a horrible person because he didn’t give them enough notice to make other plans and they had already signed leases and so on and so forth?
^^^^^^
Unfortunately, I doubt it
So as a sign of this new character development for you, will you change your name to Bobthebuilderisjustokay? (or maybe Bobthebuilderkindasucks)
My username is actually based off of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_the_Builder
I started commenting when I was a kid and back then choosing this name made sense and I just never thought to change it, thought it was funny
Yes I gathered that. I thought it was a double reference.
Oh, it isn’t If I based my username off a coach, it would be Eddie. Maybe I should do that and start using a new name
Maybe you should 😀
It’s not fair to pin this all on Bob though… the true evil is the roster limit.
I don’t think it’s all on Bob, but treating the cut athletes like poop is not cool….
I also don’t think there’s been a coach in the headlines in recent months that’s been talked about positively, so Idrk
Oh, I agree 100%. And Eddie coming to the rescue just sort of puts it into even more perspective.
It is on bob, it is how it was handled – 100% poorly. Mind games each week with his swimmers, he is or is coming off as narcissistic.
Jeremy Kelly said the same thing in his post committing to Notre Dame – comments are saying Eddie has been training the ones cut by Bob since they were cut.
Bowman cast them out and Eddie took them in
Believe it or not Eddie reached out to these boys to help them. Bob did nothing for them.
Genuine question, why is it Bob’s responsibility to cater to the cut athletes? Doesn’t he have a program to run? Yes, I’m sure he could’ve done it in a more respectful way, but I am not really understanding the Bob hate here like he’s some kind of monster.
Maybe I’m just naive in assuming the best intentions on Bob’s part.
Yeah, I guess he doesn’t have the responsibility to behave decently toward the athletes he cut. You’d hope he would act compassionately but some people are just self-centered jerks.
People are giving bob way too much credit. There’s no reason to completely bar team members from training with the team. Especially with a huge facility like the TSC. Thankfully people like Eddie exist
The same Bob Bowman who didn’t even care to explain to ASU swimmers he’s moving to Texas?
Yeah I don’t think so.
There would have to be some sort of coordination here, no? Do people think Eddie had a spare set of pool keys made and is sneaking in to train these guys without Bob or the department knowing?
People keep alluding to these cuts being done in a heartless way, though no one is providing any context. Bob is a fairly mercenary guy, but he is required to a) reduce the roster to 22 and b) do what he thinks is necessary to win NCs. The roster cuts are cruel, and I guess it is possible the coach could make it crueller than necessary, though people are making it sound like there are some Squid Game hi-jinks at play.

a) reduce the roster to 22 and b) do what he thinks is necessary to win NCs

You know that you can do those things while still caring for your expendable swimmers, right?
The fact that the swimmers didn’t even acknowledge Bob while praising Eddie says A LOT.
The heatless treatment is a deja vu of the way he was leaving ASU for Texas.
The 22 number is not even in place yet – and there is no House agreement yet. Doing this in January was not required … Death of a culture.
As it is an SEC guideline, it would not change even if the settlement failed. The judge said she has no control over it.
SEC, it just means less ( roster spots)
Yeah, but it’s telling that Bob isn’t mentioned by the transferring swimmer, but Eddie is mentioned. Tells you all you need to know.
Eddie is training them at Gregg which the is recreation pool, not the competition pool. No keys necessary.
From what Bob said on the Unfiltered Waters podcast, he was very upfront with swimmers throughout the year who were not going to make the roster cut and was committed to finding them new homes. He did not take this lightly.
What Bob says and what Bob does is completely different.
Yes, but Bob took ppl to SEC’s who were below ppl on his “objective” depth chart and kept ppl on the roster who were ranked lower on the depth chart than others cut. So not so objective. Choices are the coaches prerogative though. But not right to lay out “objective” criteria for the team and then make “subjective” decisions. Leads to trust issues within in the team, whether cut or still on the team. Guys are smarter than ppl think and see through it all”
That’s weird so you are saying Bob might have painted the picture the way he wanted to come off and others are saying something different? Like every other person is saying something different? I wonder who we should believe?
Btw – the funniest thing Bob said on that podcast was that this was all done with love.
Does no one remember all of Bob’s texting scandals like 7 years ago? Why is it shocking to some that it’s coming out again that he might not be the best person in the world?
Did you actually read the texts? The ones about an adult male that he was not coaching?
The worst part of all that to me was “associating with Sean Hutchison” but JFC I hope my drunk texts about adult women who I’m not coaching never get leaked to the press. I’m almost certain that I’ve told one of my boys that I want a woman before. I thought we were all supposed to get better at expressing our wants and needs. He didn’t even use any dirty words.
Bob sent those texts in 2011, and was one of the Olympic coaches in 2012 when Clark was on the team. It’s extremely inappropriate
Definitely my biggest problem with Bob’s resurgence into the limelight of the sport post-Phelps is the Hutchison stuff getting completely swept under the rug. Even if he wasn’t culpable it’s still a really gross look and everyone seems to completely ignore it. With how he left ASU and now how he’s left the cut Texas swimmers out to dry at least there’s some more visible proof that he’s not a good person.
It will be interesting to see if bob bowman continuously cycles people in and out if they don’t develop into ncaa scorer their first year
The way he goes about it is one thing for sure.
But you are kidding yourself if your post doesn’t apply to all SEC coaches with a roster limit of 22.
Welcome to Raleigh, Landon! I think this is a great pickup for both sides. Kyle Ponsler had probably the most inspiring individual swim for the Pack at NCAAs in the 400 IM, so I’m excited to see how he progresses this year with Pack. And hopefully he can work that 200 fly down some more and give the Pack more presence on Sunday.
