Texas Adds 2021 Verbal Commitment from National Junior Teamer Ellie Andrews

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

USA Swimming 2019-20 National Junior Team member Ellie Andrews of Dublin Community Swim Team in Dublin, Ohio has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Texas for 2021-22. She will join Olivia McMurray in the class of 2025.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at the University of Texas! I am so thankful for my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have helped and supported me over the years! Excited to be a Longhorn!” #HOOKEM’

Andrews is a junior at Coffman High School where she is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American. She won the 200 IM (1:59.73) and was runner-up in the 100 breast (1:01.76) at the 2019 Ohio State High School Division 1 Championships in February. She also swam breast on the 4th-place 200 medley relay (27.71) and contributed a leg (50.37) to the runner-up 400 free relay.

Andrews had a big summer, dropping 1 second in the 100m breast, 3 in the 200m IM, 4.8 in the 200m breast, and 9.2 in the 400m IM. She finished 7th in both the 100m breast and 200m breast at Phillips 66 Nationals, earning 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials cuts of 1:08.12 and 2:28.48, respectively. Her performances earned her a spot on the 2019-20 U.S. National Junior Team as well as the U.S. Team for FINA Junior World Championships in Budapest. There, she competed in the 50m breast and 100m breast and made finals in the two events, eventually finishing 7th in both.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 1:01.09
  • 200 breast – 2:16.66
  • 200 IM – 1:59.73
  • 400 IM – 4:24.74
  • 100 free – 51.54
  • 200 free – 1:52.93

Texas will have turned over most of its breaststroke group by the time Andrews begins. She will, however, overlap a year with Holly Jansen who went 1:00.66/2:13.15 as a freshman last year, as well as both Ellie McLeod and Anna Elendt, who arrive as breaststrokers in the class of 2020. Elendt was a World Championship finalist in the 50 breaststroke in long course. Current senior Kennedy Lohman (59.86/2:12.02) was the only Longhorn to swim breast at NCAAs. It took 59.55/2:08.73 to score in the 100/200 breast at 2019 NCAAs. Texas wasn’t represented at all in the 200 IM, where it took 1:56.52 to get a second swim.
