COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Forty-one of the United States’ top up-and-coming swimmers are slated to compete at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships opening Tuesday at Singapore’s OCBC Aquatic Centre.
The six-day meet runs through Aug. 30 with daily prelims at 10 a.m. (10 p.m. EDT the previous day) and finals at 6 p.m. locally (6 a.m. EDT).
Highlighting the U.S. men’s roster are standouts like Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan.), Sean Grieshop (Cedar Park, Texas), Maxime Rooney (Livermore, Calif.) and Reece Whitley (Lafayette Hill, Pa.). Leading the way for the women are the likes of Claire Adams (Carmel, Ind.), Cassidy Bayer (Alexandria, Va.) and Pan American Games gold medalist Sierra Schmidt (Baltimore, Md.).
A complete U.S. roster can be found here.
Athletes qualified for the squad based on their finishes at this month’s Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio where Adams won the women’s 100- and 200-meter backstroke titles and Rooney claimed the men’s 200m free victory. Andrew earned a spot on the roster in a team-high five individual events – 100m back, 100m breast, 100m fly, 50m free and 200m IM – in San Antonio.
Athletes ages 14-17 for women and 15-18 for men are eligible to compete in the meet.
