Update: After posting, USA Swimming announced that this was a shared honor with Jason Turcotte of the Dynamo Swim Club. Read more about Turcotte’s accomplishments here.

SwimMAC Carolina head coach David Marsh was given a big award today as he was named the 2014 USA Swimming Developmental Coach Of The Year, an honor that he shared with Dynamo Swim Club coach Jason Turcotte.

The award has been given out since its creation in 1996 in order to commend the individual, who by USA Swimming and the US Olympic Committee’s coaching recognition program’s standards, has had the most successful year in coaching swimmers. The recipient is chosen by the LSC Coaches’ Representatives at the annual meeting.

Previous recipients of this award include some of the top coaches in the sport such as Paul Yetter, Randy Reese, Bob Bowman, and Gregg Troy, and there is absolutely no doubt that coach Marsh fits into that category.

Over the last couple years Marsh has created a training environment at SwimMAC Carolina that is unlike most places in the United States. Big name swimmers are flocking for a chance to swim under the tutelage of Marsh, and as it seems, it’s paying off for them.

Recent stars such as Ryan Lochte and Tyler Clary moved to SwimMAC where they’ve been having tons of success. Clary was reported saying that the attention to detail that Marsh implements in his program is unlike any other training environment Clary has worked with.

Most recently, Marsh was named as the assistant coach for the women’s team at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships where the US swim team had some extremely impressive swims to say the least.

There’s no doubt that Marsh is extremely deserving of this award, and with his continued dedication and contribution to the sport and American athletes, it seems as though there’s more success riddled in the future for him. Marsh spoke lately about getting other members of the club involved with the elite group in order to truly boost the potential of those swimmers and help them see how athletes who are training to compete at the pinnacle of the sport train.

Marsh’s program is definitely successful, and as SwimMAC has been the top club in the United States for the last three years in a row, it seems as though the title of, “developmental coach of the year,” is more than fitting to describe Marsh’s success.

Melo – we don’t give love. SwimMAC reported the award to us. We didn’t get word that coach Turcotte was a co-recipient until after this article was posted. A separate article will be coming shortly.

The Developmental Coach of the Year Award is for coaches who develop athletes a step or two away from major national or international success. Per USA Swimming… “The winner of the award is the coach who places the most swimmers on the National Junior Team.”
