The monetary-based legal dispute between a Canadian swimming club and a set of reportedly non-volunteering parent members has now been resolved in Yukon territory’s small claims court.
Last month we reported how the Whitehorse Glacier Bears Swim Club was suing the parents of one of its most successful swimmers, alleging the parents have skipped out on $4900 worth of volunteer work. The club alleged that Adrian and Riana Robinson, parents of swimmer and multiple club record holder Adrian Robinson, monetarily owed the club for ‘ignoring fundraising and volunteer commitments’, as well as for the non-payment of a membership fee installment.
However, this week The Whitehorse Daily Star reports that the disagreement has been resolved, with both parties settling for a confidential amount. The suit was formerly withdrawn Monday.
“The parties came up with an amicable solution that worked for both parties,” stated Graham Lang, the lawyer for the Robinson family. “It’s common for these types of claims where you get talking and a solution presents itself.”
“We’re happy that that part is over,” added George Harvey, president of the Glacier Bears. “It’s really about the kids in the pool, so this is kind of a distraction.
“It’s all about the community,” he said. “The biggest thing is getting back to running the club.”
