Summer Juniors Qualifier Leo Roden Commits to ASU for 2023-24

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Leo Roden, a high school senior from Sandy Springs, Georgia, has committed to the Arizona State University class of 2027.

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Arizona State University! A big thanks to my family, coaches, and friends for their help getting me to where I am now. Forks up!! 😈🔱”

Roden attends North Springs High School and swims year-round with Dynamo Swim Club. He specializes in sprint freestyle. As a junior, he was runner-up in the 4A-5A 100 free (46.08), placed fourth in the 4A-5A 50 free (21.14), and anchored the ninth-place medley relay (20.79) at the Georgia High School 1A-5A State Championships, helping North Springs finish 18th in the 4A-5A division.

At the Speedo Southern Premier a month later, he earned PBs in the 100 free, 200 free, 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM and finaled in the 50 free (13th), 100 free (10th), and 200 free (31st). Recently, he added lifetime bests in the 500 free and 100 back at a MAC/DYNA senior dual meet.

Roden competed at Speedo Junior Nationals this summer in the 50/100/200 free. He notched a number of long course PBs at the Richard Quick Invitational hosted by Auburn, coming in 7th in the 50 free (24.40), 13th in the 100 free (52.78), 18th in the 200 free (1:57.47), 7th in the 50 fly (26.70), and 25th in the 100 fly (59.75). He was a member of the Dynamo quartets that broke NAG records in the boys’ 15-18 4×50 free and the boys’ 4x50m medley, on which he swam a pair of 22.9s flying-start 50 frees.

Roden will join the Sun Devils next fall with #3 Ilya Kharun, Asher Havenhill, Caleb Stanley, Filip Senc-Samardzic, Leo Kurucz, Quinlan Gould, and Will Woodall. Much of the Arizona State sprint group will turn over after this season, but Roden will overlap with Jack Dolan, Tiago Behar, Jonny Kulow, Christian Osterndorf, Jeremy Graunke, and Owen McDonald.

This dude looks like he’s 30. Maybe he learned how to achieve unlimited years of eligibility from the man grant house himself?

Leo has had a phenomenal past year, including multiple summer junior national relay titles and national age group records, and is certainly expected to continue breaking out during the upcoming short course season- a meteoric upward rise only recently marred by a day 12 failure of no shave November.
