State Records Shattered At Hawaii Age Group Championships As Kamehameha Claims Team Title

2025 Hawaiian Swimming SCY Age Group Championships

Three swimmers broke state records and the Kamehameha Swim Club ran away with the team title at the Hawaiian Swimming SCY Age Group Championships last weekend in Kona.

Highlighting the meet was Lahaina Swim Club’s Cruz Storer and Maui Swim Club’s Connor Ventura, who both broke multiple LSC records and walked away with dominant High Point Award victories in their age groups.

BOYS’ HIGHLIGHTS – RECORDS SHATTERED

Storer, 14, set new Hawaii Swimming Records for 13-14 boys in the 50, 100 and 200 free, and added another in the 50 back leading off Lahaina’s 200 medley relay.

Storer’s LSC Records (13-14 Boys)

  • 50 free – His 21.02 clocking broke the previous record of 21.27 set by Kaiea Hudgins in 2023. Storer had set a PB of 21.51 in the prelims before dropping in the final. He now ranks 55th all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group.
  • 100 free – Storer topped the field in a time of 46.28 to re-lower the state record of 46.32 he set in the prelims. In the heats, Storer erased the 17-year-old record of 46.33 set by Kacy Johnson in 2008.  Storer now ranks 91st all-time in the boys’ 13-14 age group.
  • 200 free – In the 200 free, Storer annihilated the state record by more than two seconds in 1:40.09, lowering the previous record of 1:42.26 set by Noah Peters in 2018. Storer had set a best time of 1:42.40 in the prelims, and now ranks 47th all-time in the 13-14 age group.
  • 50 back – Storer broke the 50 back record in mid-February in 24.29, and brought that down to 23.61 in the 200 medley relay as Lahaina finished 2nd to Kamehamaha.

Ventura, 12, reset LSC Records in two events in the boys’ 11-12 age group, one that had stood for 27 years and another that he demolished by more than nine seconds.

In the 200 free, Ventura put up a time of 1:50.25 to break the previous mark of 1:52.69 set by Mark Eckert back in 1998. Pnahou Aquatics’ Aiden Lee was also under the old record in 1:51.45.

In the 400 IM, Ventura powered to a time of 4:27.51 to shatter the old record of 4:36.80 set by Tom Caps in 2016.

Ventura came into the meet with best times of 1:54.52 in the 200 free and 4:45.12 in the 400 IM.

The other individual record to fall at the meet came from Swim Kauai Aquatics’ Griffin Lin, who broke his own LSC record in the boys’ 10 & under 100 breast in the prelims and then re-lowered it in the final.

Coming in as the record holder with his swim of 1:14.45 set this past December, Lin clocked 1:13.43 in the prelims and then brought the record down to 1:12.62 in the final. That swim slots him into 73rd all-time in the boys’ 11-12 age group.

There were also two relay records that went down, both at the hands of the Iolani Swim Club boys in the 15-18 age group.

First, in the 400 free relay, the Iolani quartet of Noah Caiserman (44.77), Evan Wong (44.76), Kaito James (46.48) and Finn Arrillaga (45.66) clocked 3:01.66 to break the LSC record of 3:02.02 set by Kamehameha in 2019.

At the end of the meet in the 200 free relay, Caiserman (20..70), Arrillaga (20.79), James (20.65) and Wong (20.84) finished in 1:22.98 to knock off a 12-year-old record of 1:23.47 set by Kamehameha in 2013.

GIRLS’ HIGHLIGHTS

Iolani Swim Club’s Sage Miller was a dominant force in the girls’ 15-18 age group, claiming High Point honors after winning seven events and adding a runner-up finish in another.
