A quartet from the Spartans Aquatic Club in Norcross, Georgia broke the 15-18 National Age Group Record in the mixed 200 free relay on Friday in a mid-day Time Trial at the Georgia Senior State Championships.

The group of Zachary Sutter (23.53), Leyton Roe (22.73), Sophie Hamilton (26.93), and Abigail Heizer (24.73) combined to swim 1:37.92 in the event. That broke the old record of 1:38.67 that was set by a slightly-different group from the same team in 2023.

While Roe and Heizer are holdovers from the prior record-setting squad, Sutter took over for Jensen Nelson, who now swims at Pitt, and Hamilton took over for Abigail Zboran, who now swims at Queens.

200m Abigail Heizer – 24.73
Abigail Heizer – 25.27
Final Time 1:37.92 1:38.67

Roe and Heizer, the two holdovers, both dropped a few tenths from their splits on the prior record-setting relay, while Sutter was four-tenths faster than Nelson, who he replaced.

Sutter, 18, was also four-tenths better than his previous lifetime best in the event. This is one of his last meets with the club before matriculating to Villanova University in the fall.

Roe, 17, will swim for Alabama in the fall; Hamilton, 15, is just a high school junior; and Heizer will swim for Auburn in fall 2025. For her part, Heizer’s flat-start best in the 50 free is 25.59.

USA Swimming began recognizing National Age Group Records in mixed relays in 2018, coinciding with the events becoming more popular at the international level.

Because Hamilton is only 15, the relay was not eligible for either the 15-16 or 17-18 records. The 15-16 mark belongs to the Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg in 1:39.67 from 2019, and the 217-18 record belongs to Canton City Schools in 1:40.25 from 2019. The Canton City relay included US Olympian Hunter Armstrong.
