OXFORD, Ohio. — The Miami University swimming and diving team hosted Ball State University in their 2024-2025 home opener, defeating both Ball State teams today at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. The women’s team won 164-134, while the men’s team topped Ball State 206-94. Head coach Samantha Pitter earned her first victories with the program.

How it Happened:

  • The RedHawks’ home opener started with the women’s 400 medley, where the women’s A finished in first place. Madeline PadavicEmma SchuelerErin Szczupakiewicz and Kaylin Herbet turned in a combined time of 3:46.13. The RedHawks B and C came in third and fourth, with times of 3:51.56 and 3:54.30, respectively.
  • The men’s 400-yard medley followed, where the men’s B finished in first. Drew WatsonAdrian DulayOwen Hoban and Ian Kmiliauskis turned in a combined time of 3:20.28. The men’s A came next in second with a time of 3:22.78, followed by the men’s C with a time of 3:24.97.
  • In the women’s 1000-yard freestyle, Casey Stephens placed second, clocking a time of 10:31.14. Lauren Gualtieri came next in third, earning a time of 10:39.69.
  • Yonatan Rosin came in second in the men’s 1000-yard freestyle, achieving a time of 9:47.78. James Schardt finished next in third with a time of 9:54.35.
  • After that came the women’s 200-yard freestyle, where Kaylin Herbet came in first, recording a time of 1:53.26. Julia Waechter placed third with a time of 1:54.95.
  • The men’s 200-yard freestyle followed where Allen Cotton finished first with a time of 1:39.90. Tegan Barrier was right behind him, placing second with a time of 1:41.76. Kmiliauskis finished third with a time of 1:41.85.
  • Ella Ziegert came in first in the women’s 100-yard backstroke, turning in a time of 55.75. Angelina Cakuls earned a second-place finish, recording a time of 56.70.
  • Jensen Nelson finished first in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.62. Aaron Black finished right after him in second with a finish of 52.89. Clark Pabst finished third, clocking a time of 53.03.
  • The women’s 100-yard breaststroke was next on the agenda, where Natalie Gilson placed second, achieving a time of 1:04.96. Ashley Sego finished fifth with a time of 1:07.94.
  • The men’s 100-yard breaststroke followed, where Dulay ran away with a first-place finish, turning in a time of 56.73. Brady Miller came in second, recording a time of 56.96, followed by Danila Litikin, who placed third with a time of 58.60.
  • Mady Bachmeier achieved a second-place finish in the women’s 200-yard butterfly, earning a time of 2:05.86. Emily Rinker was next in third with a time of 2:11.55.
  • Aidan Jacobs finished first in the men’s 200-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 1:54.24. Tommy Frye was next in second, turning in a time of 1:55.26, followed by Maguire Sheppard who placed third with a time of 1:56.27.
  • The women’s 50-yard freestyle was next, where Padavic placed second, recording a time of 23.81. Taylor Connors earned a fourth-place finish, earning a time of 24.37.
  • After that was the men’s 50-yard freestyle, where Kevin Donaldson had a second-place finish with a time of 21.65. Josh Smith came in fourth, recording a time of 21.75.
  • Jenna Halliday came in second in the women’s 100-yard freestyle, turning in a time of 52.53. Taylor Connors came away with a fourth-place finish, achieving a time of 54.56.
  • In the men’s 100-yard freestyle, Kmiliauski placed first, clocking a time of 45.04. Donaldson had a fourth place finish with a time of 47.80.
  • Cakuls came away with a first-place finish in the women’s 200 yard backstroke, recording a time of 2:01.76. Chrisna Bezuidenhout was second with a time of 2:02.66, followed by Bachmeier, who recorded a time of 2:04.74.
  • Zach Bann was first in the men’s 200-yard backstroke, earning a time of 1:51.82. Drew Watson placed third with a time of 1:52.82.
  • After that came the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, where Zofia Janaszek-Seydlitz earned herself a second place finish, recording a time of 2:24.59.
  • Benjamin Eichberg finished first in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:06.14. Paul Brosky was next in second with a time of 2:07.36. Litikin was right behind him, finishing third turning in a time of 2:08.94.
  • Audrey Conley placed second in the women’s 500 yard freestyle, earning a time of 5:05.90. Katheryn Antonowich took third with a time of 5:11.64.
  • Tommy Frye came in second in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:37.27. Bryce Menchhofer followed, finishing third recording a time of 4:41.92. Sheppard finished right behind him in fourth, turning in a time of 4:46.25
  • The women’s 100-yard butterfly followed, where Herbet recorded a time of 55.83 that was good for first place. Szczupakiewicz placed second with a time of 55.83, and Ziegert finished third earning a time of 57.65.
  • The men’s 100-yard butterfly was right after that, where Scott Spear finished first clocking a time of 49.95. Dulay came in second with a time of 50.60.
  • Sego placed second in the women’s 400 IM, recording a time of 4:35.23. Rinker came in fourth with a time of 4:37.94.
  • Cotton finished first in the men’s 400 IM, posting a time of 3:59.94. Hoban was right behind him, finishing second with a time of 4:01.78. Brosky placed third, earning a time of 4:08.09.
  • The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay was next, where the women’s A finished first. Gilson, Halliday, Herbert and Padavic turned in a combined time of 1:33.47.
  • The men’s 200-yard freestyle relay followed where the men’s A finished first. Barrier, Spear, Ian Wihebrink and Ben Eichberg put up a combined time of 1:23.56.
  • For diving events, Mia Meinhardt placed second in the women’s 1-meter dive, putting up a score of 270.56. Sydney Rice came in third with a score of 262.80.
  • Jackson Miller earned a second place finish in the men’s 1-meter dive with a score of 262.15. Victor Hearn came in third, turning in a score of 236.60.
  • Rice came away with a first-place finish, scoring 283.90 in the women’s 3-meter dive. Meinhardt placed second with a score of 253.35, and Nora Kowalski came in third posting a score of 239.40.
  • Miller came second in the men’s 3-meter dive, recording a score of 238.05. Hearn placed third, tallying a score of 231.45.

UP NEXT:
The women will return to the pool against Ohio University on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Following this, both the men and women compete together in a home meet versus Oakland University on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m.

OXFORD, Ohio – – Despite claiming nine event wins, the Ball State women’s swimming & diving program suffered a 164-134 setback to Mid-American Conference rival Miami Friday afternoon at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

Graduate Laura Wright continued her dominance in the breaststroke, claiming her second victories of the season in both the 100 (1:04.90) and 200 (2:21.96). In addition, her 200 breaststroke time was one-and-a-half seconds faster than her time in the season-opener versus UIC last Friday.

The Cardinals also shined in the individual freestyle races, winning four of the five events. Junior Payton Kelly claimed a pair of freestyle sprint wins, taking the top spot in both the 50 (23.60) and 100 (51.83) races. The effort raised her season total to four individual event victories.

In the distance events, junior Kiran Stauffer claimed the win in the 500 (5:05.13), while freshman McKenna Potteiger took the top spot in the 1000 (10:28.48). Stauffer fell just shy of completing the freestyle sweep for Ball State, taking second in the 200 (1:54.65).

The Cardinals also received a strong effort from sophomore Alexa Von Holtz who won both the 200 butterfly (2:03.88) and the 400 IM (4:32.57). Von Holtz has won both 200 butterfly competitions she has swam this season, giving her three event wins on the year.

On the diving boards, graduate Grace Walker picked up her third individual win of the season, scoring 283.50 in the 1-meter competition. She did not compete on 3-meter versus the RedHawks.

Up next for the Ball State women’s swimming & diving program will be the team’s annual Alumni Meet on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.

OXFORD, Ohio – – Despite claiming five event wins, the Ball State men’s swimming & diving team suffered a 206-94 setback to Missouri Valley Conference rival Miami Friday afternoon at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

The distance freestyle events provided the biggest highlights for the Cardinals in the pool, as sophomore Malcolm Slater took top honors in both the 500 (4:36.99) and the 1000 (9:38.82). Slater now has four individual event wins on the season, after winning both the 200 and 500 freestyles in last Friday’s season-opener versus UIC.

In addition, reigning MVC Freshman of the Week AJ Friend remained undefeated in the 50 freestyle, turning in a first place and collegiate-best time of 21.33 Friday. He now has three individual wins on the 2024-25 campaign.

The Cardinals also picked up the sweep on the diving boards, as junior Porter Brovont took the top spot on both 1-meter (267.75) and 3-meter (285.95).

In addition to the event wins, Ball State received a second-place finish from Ethan Pheifer in the 100 freestyle (46.74).

The Cardinals also closed the meet with Friend, junior Jacob Siewers, junior Mason Young and Pheifer combining to take second in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:24.96.

Up next for the Ball State women’s swimming & diving program will be the team’s annual Alumni Meet on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
