UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s swimming & diving beat Army, 229-68 Friday evening at McCoy Natatorium. During the course of the evening Nittany Lion athletes broke two school records and three pool records and earned four NCAA B-Cut times and five NCAA zone cuts in addition to claiming victory in 15 events.

“I think the records are just a reflection of the quality of work,” said Penn State head coach Tim Murphy. “When you do work well, and you do it repeatedly. Those are good records up there, so people performing at that level means they’ve made a commitment to be consistent. And they’re working with very high goals. So that’s where they come from. It’s very nice when they happen, and they don’t happen by accident. The first thing that I told them at the end was how I feel right now. It’s just a lot of gratitude.”

Coach’s Corner
“Our team stepped up against a very ready and excited Penn State team today. We handled a long day of travel with a quick turnaround very well. Penn State swam off the charts today, so hats off to their athletes and coaches. I thought we raced well given the level of training that we’ve had over the last few weeks. Our details were much sharper than they usually are in early January, which is a testament to the teams work ethic and focus, but we still have work to do before Patriot League Championships kick off in just 33 days. As soon as the meet ended, we warmed down and loaded the bus for Bucknell. We’ll swim them in the morning, and we know they will be ready to compete at a high level, so we have to be ready for another tough meet in just over 16 hours.” — Head Coach Brandt Nigro

Cadet’s Corner
“It was a really good opportunity to race a very welcoming and fast school that challenged us and suiting up made it a great racing environment. I personally really enjoyed the competition, and it pushed me to go the fastest I’ve ever gone in season at a dual meet.” – Aurelie Migault

“During winter training the team has definitely put in a lot of heart and soul into getting better. This was seen at the meet. There was a lot of anticipation to race and see where we are all at after a long training block. There were numerous best in-season times across the board so we are excited for what’s to come.” – Owen Harlow
