14-year-old Alex Walsh of Nashville Aquatic Club downed Missy Franklin’s national age group record in the 200 IM for 13-14 girls at the Speedo Winter Juniors East on Thursday night. Franklin had set the mark of 1:57.70 in 2010.

Walsh came into the meet with a seed time of 2:00.07. During prelims she went a best time by 1.2 seconds and qualified third for finals. Walsh came back ready to race; she dropped time across the board, but her biggest gains came in the backstroke and freestyle legs, where she improved by 1.2 and .77 seconds, respectively.
