Abby Brethauer has been on the winning end of swimming and diving meets in DeNunzio Pool before. This one had to feel a little different.
The Princeton women defeated Rutgers 191.5-108.5 Saturday afternoon at DeNuzio, giving Brethauer her first home win as the team’s head coach, after she spent two years as an assistant with the Tiger men. The win improved her overall record as the women’s head coach to 3-0.
Heidi Smithwick ended the day by swimming the anchor leg of Princeton’s winning 200 free relay, after she had won the 50 free and 200 and finished second in the 100 butterfly earlier in the day. The sophomore from Florida led a 1-2-3 finish by Princeton in the 50 free, followed by Veronique Rossouw and Elzbieta Noble, who along with Sabrina Johnson (who was on the winning 200 medley relay to start the day) joined Smithwick in the 200 free relay.
Eleanor Sun and Dakota Tucker finished 1-2 in the 200 IM, and Tucker and Emily Appleton did likewise in the 500 free. Princeton had a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 backstroke, with Grace Black, Margaux McDonald and Isabella Korbly.
The 200 medley relay team was Alexa Pappas, Eliza Brown, Edie Simecek and Johnson. Ellie Marquardt followed that by taking the 1,000 freestyle, followed by teammate Megan Reich. Smithwick’s first win came in the third event, the 200 free, in which Caroline Lewitt came in second.
Princeton’s next meet is this Saturday, Nov. 18, when Penn and Cornell will be in DeNunzio.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Rutgers swimming & diving won five events against the Princeton Tigers at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday, but the Scarlet Knights will have to wait until next season to try and bring the Cannon Trophy back “To The Banks”.
The host Tigers won the meet 191.5-108.5 to retain the Cannon Trophy in the fourth annual battle.
FROM THE POOL DECK
- Freshman Elysha Pribadi captured a new PR winning the 200 breast with the sixth fastest time in Rutgers history and added a pair of third-place finishes in the 500 free and 200 IM.
- RU also captured first-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 fly by sophomore Martyn Piekso and in the 100 breast by junior Tina Celik while sophomore Valeria Egorova tied for the top spot in the 100 back.
- The Scarlet Knights also saw season bests from juniors Holly Prasanto and Giulia Vittorioso on 1M.
SPRINTS
- Elysha Pribadi captured a new PR in the 200 breast improving her previous best set last weekend at Purdue by .05 seconds. Her winning time of 2:14.92 marked the sixth fastest time in the Rutgers record book. Pribadi also took third in the 200 IM registering a time of 2:03.45.
- Tina Celik won the 100 breast with a 1.28-second margin of victory clocking in at 1:02.75. She also picked up a third-place finish in the 200 breast in 2:18.42.
- Martyna Piekso was out in front with a half-second lead to win the 100 free with a time of 51.10 and also notched a first-place win in the 100 fly in 54.40.
- Valeria Egorova and Princeton’s Alexa Pappas both hit the wall in 55.10 to tie for first in the 100 back.
- Ella Hall captured a season best in the 200 free taking third in 1:53.86 dropping .25 seconds off her previous best of last weekend against Purdue.
- Ellie Schinsky was just shy of PR In the 200 fly with her third-place performance in 2:03.79 hitting .11 seconds off from her best time in a third-place finish with Toronto.

DIVING
- On the boards, the Scarlet Knights earned second and third-place finishes on both 1M and 3M.
- On 1M, Holly Prasanto was the runner-up with a season-high 297.30 while Giulia Vittorioso claimed third with a season-best 291.83
- Their placement was reversed on 3M with Vittorioso in second with a score of 273.56 and Prasanto finishing third scoring a 264.98.
RELAYS
- Both Scarlet Knight relay squads had runner-up performances.
- The 200 medley team of Valeria Egorova, Tina Celik, Martyna Piesko and Jade Smits clocked in second in 1:42.53 finishing .16 seconds behind Princeton.
- The 200 free squad of Alena Rozova, Jade Smits, Martyna Piesko and Valeria Egorova placed second in 1:37.15.
DISTANCE
- Pribadi opened her day competing in the 1000 free for the first time in her Scarlet Knight career. The freshman took third logging a time of 10:17.01.
- Megan Fox also gave the Scarlet Knights a third-place finish in the 500 free clocking in at 5:02.99
