Princeton Women Earn Commitment from South Africa National Teamer Dakota Tucker

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Dakota Tucker from Randburg, South Africa, has announced her verbal commitment to the application process at Princeton University and will head to New Jersey in the fall of 2023.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to announce my verbal commitment to the application process at Princeton University and will attend if admitted. Thank you to everyone who has made this incredible opportunity possible! Let’s go Tigers ! 🐅🧡🖤”

Tucker is a high school senior who trains with Waterborn Swim Club. While she is quite versatile, she specializes in the 200/400 IM and 200 fly. (She told SwimSwam that she is “definitely not a sprinter” but that she “love[s] a good 100 or 50 back just for fun.”)

She won the 200 fly and 400 IM and was runner-up in the 200 IM at the 2022 South African Short Course Championships in August, notching lifetime bests in the IMs (2:13.24/4:38.16). She was just off her 200 fly PB that came from the September 2021 version of the same meet. There, she won the 200 fly (2:12.55), was runner-up in the 200 IM (2:14.24) and 400 IM (4:43.06), and placed fourth in the 100 fly (1:01.75) and sixth in the 100 IM (1:04.28).

At 2022 Long Course Nationals last April, she picked up a silver medal in the 200 IM (2:17.53).

Tucker was selected to the South African National Team for Short Course World Championships in December. It will be the first time she represents RSA on the senior national team. (Her selections to 15th FINA World Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi and 2021 World Junior Championships fell through because of COVID.)

Tucker will graduate from high school in December and start at Princeton in September 2023. She will join #17 Eleanor Sun, “Best of the Rest” Mary McKenna, Edie Simecek, Grace Black, Hayley Clark, and Veronique Rossouw in the class of 2027. She will be an immediate threat for the Tigers, with converted times that would scored at the 2022 Ivy League Women’s Championships at #2 in the 400 IM (.14 behind Felicia Pasadyn and 3.5 seconds ahead of Mikki Thompson); #4 in the 200 IM; and #5 in the 200 fly.

Top SCM times (converted):

  • 400 IM – 4:38.16 (4:10.59)
  • 200 IM – 2:13.24 (2:00.03)
  • 200 fly – 2:12.55 (1:59.41)
  • 100 fly – 1:01.75 (55.63)
