The 2024 Futures Championships in Sacramento closed out on Saturday night. The last session kicked off with Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics 16-year-old Kelsey Zhang win the women’s 200 IM in 2:16.83. Zhang has been slightly faster in her career, holding a personal best of 2:15.55 from just a couple weeks ago.
Princeton recruit Logan Noguchi (Rose Bowl Aquatics) took the men’s 50 free in 22.85. It was a huge swim for the 18-year-old, clearing his previous best of 23.26 by nearly half-a-second.
In the women’s 1500 free, Ellie Kayser (Gold Medal Swim Club), 16, put up a huge win. Kayser clocked a 17:03.42, shredding her previous best of 17:15.80. Corvallis Aquatic Team 14-year-old Zayda Miehl shattered her personal best of 17:28.67, taking 2nd in 17:05.95. That performance marks an improvement of 22.72 seconds for the youngster.
Bend Swim Club 15-year-old Maddie Thornton pulled out the win in the women’s 200 back on Saturday night, clocking a 2:16.25. That swim marks a huge personal best for Thornton, taking well over 2 seconds off her previous best of 2:18.99.
Another 15-year-old from Oregon, Nicolas Lee from Hillsboro Swim Team, won the men’s 200 back in 2:04.91. That was a massive performance for Lee as well, blowing his previous best of 2:09.11 out of the water.
In the women’s 50 free, Riverside Aquatics Association 16-year-old Ava DeAnda took the women’s 50 free in 26.04. With the performance, she tied her personal best.
Bekzhan Yessengeldy, an 18-year-old out of Rancho San Dieguito, won the men’s 200 IM in 2:05.68. He took a second off his career mark in the event with the swim.
The men’s 800 free saw Multnomah Athletic Club 18-year-old Thomas Olsen win in a time of 8:23.99. It was a solid swim for the USC incoming freshman, who holds a career best of 8:22.09.
