We reported on the fact that Dutch breaststroking ace Arno Kamminga slashed some time off of his own national record in the SCM 100 breaststroke while competing in Amsterdam this weekend. The man clocked a speedy 55.99 to now rank as the 5th fastest performer ever in the event. You can read more about his feat here.

However, also making waves in the short course pool over the weekend was his compatriot Thom de Boer. De Boer already hit a new long course national record in the 50 freestyle at the Amsterdam Meet in a time of 21.58.

Continuing on to SCM with Kamminga at the Speedo Faster Water meet in the same city, de Boer also scored a new Dutch standard in the 100 freestyle. Stopping the clock in a swift 46.76, de Boer not only put up a new lifetime best, but his result overtook the national record of 46.81 storied Olympic icon Pieter van den Hoogenband put on the books way back in 2003.

In PVDH’s swim, the man opened in 23.12 and closed in 23.69 to take gold at that year’s European Short Course Championships.

Yesterday, de Boer led-off in a wicked-quick 21.97 before bringing it home on the back half in 24.70 to slice .05 off of the previous record. De Boer’s previous PB entering this meet was represented by the 46.92 he logged in Budapest in November of last year.
