ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team wrapped up its two-day dual meet with Eastern Michigan on Saturday morning (Feb.), with Ohio securing the victory by the final score of, 272.5-79.5.
Prior to the start of the meet, the Bobcats honored its five seniors, who never lost a home dual in their time as a Bobcat: Raphaelle Anglade (Toulouse, France), Sophie Cooper (Milford, Ohio), Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa), Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa) and Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.).
In the first event of the day, 3-meter diving, sophomore Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) took first with a score of 306.60, while sophomore Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) took fourth with a score of 245.33.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio ‘A’ team of junior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), sophomore Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) and graduate student Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed first, finishing with a time of 1:38.50. The finish set a new school record for the Bobcats in the 200 medley relay, shaving .47 off the previous record of 1:38.97 that was set last year.
In the 1000 free, sophomore Ashley Sallows (Delaware, Ohio) placed first with a time of 10:18.35, while freshman Maddie Berg placed second, touching in at 10:28.29.
The 50 free saw Dunigan take first, finishing with a time of 22.82, followed by sophomore Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) in third with a time of 24.30 and Strine in sixth (24.39).
Then in the 100-yard backstroke, Schrank picked up the first-place finish, touching in with a time of 54.79, while sophomore Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) finished fourth (56.94) and freshman Leah Guess (Hartville, Ohio) in fifth (56.96).
Ohio took the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke with DiBetta placing first with a time of 1:01.22, followed by Strine in second (1:02.47) and Sawyer in third with a time of 1:03.33.
Szoke took first in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 53.01, followed by Schrank in third (.56.90), junior Alexandra Wayner (Savannah, Georgia) in fifth (58.47) in fifth and Guess in sixth with a time of 58.90.
In the 200 free, junior Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) placed second, finishing with a time of1:52.17, followed by Dunigan in third (1:52.27), junior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) in fourth (1:52.29) and Buroker in fifth with a time of 1:53.88.
Ohio took the top four spots in the 400 IM, with McKee placing first with a time of 4:19.60. Next was junior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in second (4:24.92), junior Morgan Brown (Roanoke, Ind.) in third (4:26.70) and Anglade in fourth with a time of 4:29.74.
Then in the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, the Ohio ‘A’ team of Szoke, Buroker, McGrath and Binns placed first with a time of 3:25.42.
Up next, the Bobcats head to Columbus, Ohio for their final tune-up before the MAC Championships Feb. 14-16 for the 2025 OSU Winter Invite.

ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University swimming & diving student-athlete Tristen Mina clocked the program’s sixth-fastest 100 yard butterfly, placing second in a personal-best 54.94 seconds as the Eagles fell to Ohio University, 272.5-79.5, at the OU Aquatic Center, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
Mina‘s (Santa Clara, Calif./The King’s Academy) time earned her a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championships B cut in the process.
The Eagles recorded one first-place finish, seven second-place outings, eight third-place showings, six personal-best marks, and 18 season-bests.
How it Happened
The Eagles were led by Azra Umut (Istanbul, Turkey/Fenerbahce School), who earned three top-three finishes and three personal-bests including a first-place outing in the 200y freestyle in 1:51.47. She went on to finish second in the backstroke in 56.21, and third in the 500y freestyle in 4:57.80.
In the swimming events, Eastern filled the second and third spots in the 50y freestyle and 100y backstroke. Emma Littrell (Taylor Mill, Ky./St. Henry District) placed second in the 50y freestyle in 24.14 while Marlee Christie (Seminole, Fla./Seminole) trailed closely, placing third in 24.20. Umut swam to silver in the 100y backstroke in a PB 56.21 and Kiersten Russell (Clinton, Mich./Saline) placed third in 56.69.
The 200y medley relay team of Siporah Sang (London, Ontario/Sir Frederick Banting Secondary), Nina Larosa (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay), Mina, and Lucy Noble (Flagler Beach, Fla./Flagler Palm Coast) swam a season-fastest time, placing second in 1:43.51. The Eagles also placed second in both the 200y (1:34.39) and 400y freestyle (3:31.04) relays.
The 200y breaststroke was a productive race for the Eagles. Abby Szadorski (Oswego, Ill./Oswego East) (third – 2:18.88), Mina (sixth – 2:22.17), and Larosa (seventh – 2:25.42) all swam season-best marks.
Morgan Hofmeister (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) swam a PB in the 1000y freestyle, placing third in 10:32.37. Following closely was Ashley George (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha), who touched the wall in fourth in a season-fastest 10:39.64.
Megan Lupa (Campden, Ontario/West Niagara Secondary) led the EMU divers as she placed second in the 3m dive in a collegiate PB 284.25 points, earning her second NCAA Zone Diving Championships cut of the season. She earned her first cut of the year with a score of 229.9 on the platform dive at the UB Diving Invite, Jan. 12. Another EMU diver with two zone cuts under belt this season, Rebekah Knapp (Mesa, Ariz./Skyline) slotted third with 276.75. Lupa went on to earn bronze in the 1m, scoring 246.23.

The Eagles will return home to celebrate their seniors at the Jones Natatorium in the annual Senior Extravaganza Saturday, Feb. 8, the scrimmage will begin at 1 p.m. and include a mix of traditional swimming and diving events along with added swimming and diving themed games and challenges. Admission is free.
