ODU Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over American

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s and women’s swimming team celebrated senior day with a win over American on Saturday at the Scrap Chandler Pool. The men’s team won 210-52 and the women’s defeated American 140-122.

Old Dominion opened the day with a first and second place finish in the women’s 200 medley relay. The first-place team featured Samantha Allred, Bridget Morris Larkin, Tanya Yevminova and Mary Dunworth finishing with a time of 1:48.07. The second-place team finished in 1:50.63 and featured Kiersten DonnellyMarian CheramyAngela Sicaja and Peyton Turner.

In the men’s 200 medley relay, ODU took the top two spots. The first palce team of Gustaf Hansson, Toni Salluka, Jamie Cleaver and Zach Redding finished with a time of 1:31.34. The second-place team featured Ben Schattenberg, Bryce MortimerJordan Davis and Dawson Truong finishing in 1:34.86.

In the women’s 1650 free, Sophia Kapla took second with a time of 18:08.12 and Brynn Jewell took third with a time of 18:25.67.

In the men’s 1650 free, ODU took the top three spots. Yagiz Ari took first with a time of 16:07.11, Grey Bremer took second with a time of 16:15.17 and Alexander Schreck placed third with a time of 16:42.52.

In the women’s 200 free, Lauren Masters took second with a time of 1:56.85 and Mallory Mackay took third finishing in 1:57.71.

In the men’s 200 free, Schattenberg took first with a time of 1:43.31 and Ryan Lincicum took second with a time of 1:46.43.

The Monarchs claimed the top two spots in the women’s 100 back as Dunworth took first with a time of 57.86 and Donnelly took second with a time of 58.45.

Hansson placed first in the men’s 100 back with a time of 49.66. Mortimer placed second with a time of 50.95 and Davis followed him with a third-place finish in 52.27.

In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Morris Larkin took first with a time of 1:08.43, Cheramy took second with a time of 1:09.56 and Kristina Zachary took third with a time of 1:09.63.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Truong took first with a time of 58.13, Salluka took second with a time of 58.94 and Michael Marotta took third with a time of 59.93.

Martina Ciriesi took first in the women’s 200 fly with a time of 2:08.58. Yevminova followed her with a time of 2:09.38 and Brina Uhlin took third with a time of 2:11.77.

In the men’s 200 fly, Redding took first with a time of 1:54.07, Schreck took second with a time of 1:55.62 and placing third was Tristen Wells with a time of 1:58.35.

In the women’s 50 free, Dunworth took second with a time of 24.41.

Cleaver placed first in the men’s 50 free with a time of 21.20.

In the women’s 100 free, Masters took second with a time of 54.08.

In the men’s 100 free, Redding placed first with a time of 46.79, Truong took second with a time of 47.65 and Lincicum placed third with a time of 48.25.

Ciriesi took first in the women’s 200 back with a time of 2:06.53 and Mackay took second with a time of 2:10.59.

In the men’s 200 back, Schatteneberg placed first with a time of 1:55.16, following him was Davis with a time of 1:58.36 and placing third was Marcus Schwartz with a time of 1:58.53.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Zachary took first with a time of 2:28.42 and Morris Larkin placed third with a time of 2:33.11.

In the men’s 200 breaststroke, Mortimer placed first with a time of 2:04.93, Salluka took second with a time of 2:12.16 and placing third was Drew Vanden Heuvel with a time of 2:13.75.

Kapla placed second in the women’s 500 free with a time of 5:19.14.

In the men’s 500 free, Bremer took first with a time of 4:37.18, Ari took second with a time of 4:37.56 and placing third was Schreck with a time of 4:51.12.

In the women’s 100 fly, Ciriesi took second with a time of 58.52 and Masters placed third with a time of 59.06.

Cleaver took first in the men’s 100 fly with a time of 49.81 and Davis placed third with a time of 51.52.

Yevminova took second in the women’s 200 IM with a time of 2:10.03.

In the men’s 200 IM, ODU took the top three spots as Mortimer placed first with a time of 1:53.80, Schattenberg took second with a time of 1:58.21 and Schwartz placed third with a time of 2:00.86.

In the women’s 200 free relay, the team of Masters, Yevminova, Turner and Dunworth placed second with a time of 1:39.19. The third-place team featured Ciriesi, Uhlin, Emma Seidel and Sicaja which finished with a time of 1:39.90.

In the men’s 200 free relay, Cleaver, Lincicum, Hansson and Redding took first with a time of 1:24.41 while Johnathan WaldenCarson DollBrice Bounds and Bremer took third with a time of 1:27.12.

ODU is back in action Feb. 21 at the ASUN Championships in Knoxville, Tennessee.

NORFOLK, Va. – The American University men’s and women’s swim teams finished off their dual seasons with one final meet at Old Dominion, and the women pulled out wins in eight of the 16 events including setting a new ODU pool record. Though AU put on a strong performance overall, the Eagles fell short to the Monarchs with a 140-122 loss on the women’s side and a 210-52 loss for the men’s team.

The Monarchs do not sponsor diving teams, and no diving events were held as part of the dual.

Notable Women’s Performance

  • Senior Mimi Watts set a pool record at ODU in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.92. Along with her record, she helped the Eagles to two other wins over the Monarchs in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay with sophomore Isabel McGovern, sophomore Dylan Moulton, and freshman Lian Jeong Engle.
  • McGovern was also able to pull out two individual wins with her times in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM.
  • Freshman Fiona McMahon was able to get her first collegiate win under her belt in the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:16.67.
  • Another distance specialist, freshman Kate Williamstook the win in the 1,000 freestyle with a 17:52.27. She won the event handily with the second-place swimmer coming in 16 seconds behind her.
  • Jeong Engle, along with her relay success, was able to pull out a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.40.

Notable Men’s Performances

  • The Eagles’ sprinters pulled off a 2, 3, 4 finish in the 50 freestyle with senior Nick Buckley at a 21.42, senior Caleb Farris at a 21.57 and freshman Connor Florence at a 21.90.
  • Farris was also able to post a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.00.
  • Freshman Lucas Standridge took third place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.23.
  • The sprint trio of Buckley, Farris and Florence along with junior Aidan Delehanty, finished the meet off with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.17.

Up Next

  •  Next Saturday, Feb. 3, the Eagles head to Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Invitational. They’ll use this meet to get used to the pool that they’ll swim the Patriot League Championships in, which are set for Feb. 21-24.
