Northwestern Women Punch Ticket To NCAAs With ‘A’ Cut In 200 Free Relay (1:28.34)

The Northwestern women punched their ticket to NCAAs swimming to an ‘A’ cut in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Nikki Venema, Lindsay Ervin, Audrey Yu, and Amy Pan swam to a time of a 1:28.34, under the cut of a 1:28.42. The four just missed the cut at Big Tens as they swam a 1:28.52 last week.

Also highlighting the morning was Wisconsin’s Hailey Tierney as she swam to a 21.95 in the 50 freestyle. That marks a season best as she swam a 22.01 for 4th place at Big Tens last week. Tierney looks to make NCAAs this year after swimming a 21.98 for 21st in the event a year ago. She now moves up from t-38th in the NCAA this season to 35th. It took a 22.11 to make the cutline in the event last year.

The women’s 400 IM saw numerous season best time as as Wisconsin’s Stella Chapman swam a 4:13.73 and Northwestern’s Hana Shimizu-Bowers swam a 4:14.54. It took a 4:10.74 to make NCAAs in the event a year ago but both swimmers have another chance tonight.

Minnesota’s Claire Reinke posted a personal best 1:56.06 in the 200 fly last week and swam a 1:55.96 for another best time this morning. It took a 1:55.88 to make NCAAs a year ago and she now moves up from #48 to #45 in the event this year.

The 1650 free saw two swimmers improve upon their seed times as Minnesota’s Katie McCarthy swam a 16:05.75, a lifetime best by over two seconds as she now sits at #28 in the NCAA this season. Wisconsin’s Maddie Waggoner swam to a 16:11.68, dropping half a second from her season best although she still sits at #43 in the NCAA this season.
