There was a first-time winner and a traditional winner returning to the top of the podium at the Georgia High School Athletic Association 4A meet earlier this month.
The Northview boys made school history by winning its first-ever state title, while the Marist girls won their 12th title ever and first since 2021.
GIRLS’ RECAP
The meet was heavy on winners who are non-seniors, most notably Midtown sophomore Sarah Paisley Owen, who swept the sprint freestyle events.
Owen first won the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.34, and then later won the 100 freestyle in a time of 48.47, which tied her own state record she set on Feb. 5.
Owen also swam anchor for Midtown’s winning team in the 400 freestyle relay, which won in a time of 3:31.75. Other team members were Rhea El-Deiry, Dabney Bond and Katya Tumanova.
Another sophomore standout was Greta Myers of Westminster, who won the 200 IM in a time of 2:05.59 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.11.
Marist’s team of Abby Jacob, Allie Donkar, Angel Akumabor and Elizabeth Ann Copenhayer won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:44.91, while Marist’s team of Jacob, Akumabor, Copenhayer and Linden Corbett captured the 200 free relay in a time of 1:37.01.
Other individual winners were:
- Caitlyn Ymbras. A sophomore from Blessed Trinity, she won the 200 freestyle in a personal best time of 1:52.56.
- Brooklyn Petit. The senior from Cambridge won diving with 659.80 points.
- Jennifer Griner. A senior from Cambridge, she won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:02.93.
- Pilar King. The Southwest Dekalb junior won the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.80.
- Allie Donkar. The Boston College signee and Marist senior won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:03.47.

BOYS’ RECAP
Just like the girls meet, a sophomore was the biggest standout. That was Northview’s Ashton Tan, who won the 200 IM in a time of 1:50.61 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 49.37. He also was a part of winning teams in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
The team of Ethan Pure, Andrew Liu, Tan and Sergio Tan won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:34.63, while the team of A. Tan, Jason Park, S. Tan and Pure won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:08.66.
Cambridge won the other relay, as the team of Tayne Naude, Oscar Ryzhkov, David Jackson and Gavin Schoeling won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:27.32.
The other individuals with multiple wins were Westminster sophomore Connor Christopherson and Marist junior Cannon Martenson.
Christopherson won the 200 freestyle in a personal best time of 1:36.45 and the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:27.11, while Martenson won the 50 freestyle in a time of 20.76 and the 100 freestyle in a personal best time of 44.73.
Other individual winners were:
- Emanual Pitts. The senior from East Forsyth won diving with 617.90 points.
- Max Rodbell. A junior from Westminster, he won the 100 backstroke in a personal best time of 50.27.
- Will Kaminsky. The freshman from Blessed Trinity won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.89.
