Dean Ramsbottom of Oswego, IL has verbally committed to swim at Northern Michigan University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. He is entering his senior year at Oswego Co-op and he swims club for Delta Aquatics.

Ramsbottom competed at three high school championship meets in February. In early February, he swam the 50 and 100 free at the Southwest Prairie Conference Championships. He placed 2nd in the 50 free (22.55) and 3rd in the 100 free (49.58). Two weeks later, he swam the same events at the Illinois Sectional Championships in Metea Valley. Ramsbottom went a 21.45 in the 50 free, which was 1.1 seconds faster than at the previous meet. Similarly, he improved his 100 free time, going a 47.57. Finally, Ramsbottom competed at the Illinois State Championships. He placed 35th in the 50 free and 36th in the 100 free.

When he joins the Northern Michigan University men’s team in the fall of 2021, Ramsbottom will be training alongside some of the conference’s top swimmers. The men wound up third at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2020, with top individual and relay performances. Lajos Budai led the team in medals, earning gold medals in the 100 free and back, and a silver medal in the 200 free. He later competed at the NCAA Division II Championships in the 50 and 200 free and the 400 medley relay. Northern Michigan also took home the gold medal in the 800 free relay.
Ramsbottom will be joining the class of 2025.
