Another Belgian record bit the dust at this weekend’s championships, this time courtesy of Noah De Schryver.
Competing in the men’s 200m breaststroke, De Schryver put up a time of 2:10.83 to become the first-ever man from his nation to get under the 2:11 barrier in the event.
Splitting 1:02.94/1:07.89, De Schryver’s effort easily overtook his previous lifetime best and Belgian record of 2:11.60. He only just logged that result earlier this month while competing at the Eindhoven Qualification Meet.
De Schryver’s 2:10.83 outing here came within striking distance of the World Aquatics ‘A’ standard of 2:10.32 needed to qualify for this summer’s World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Worldwide on the season, De Schryver now checks in as the 25th fastest performer.
De Schryver is just one of several national record breakers at this competition. For instance, Lucas Henveaux fired off new marks in both the men’s 200m free and 400m free events.
This type of result is on par with how the nation of Belgium has been performing as of late. As of March of this year, a total of 17 Belgian records had been overwritten on the season.
