NCAA Division II Record Holder In 200 Breast Jonette Laegreid Announces Transfer to Indiana

NCAA Division II record holder in the women’s 200 breaststroke Jonette Laegreid has announced her transfer to Indiana for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Laegreid spent her freshman season at Division II Drury.

Laegreid arrived to Drury from Norway in fall 2024 and adjusted to short course yards very well. She won the 200 breast at the SMU Invite at midseason touching in a 2:09.37. She also was 3rd in the 100 breast in a 1:00.16.

At the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, Laegreid swam to titles in the 100 breast (1:00.73) and 200 breast (2:09.28). She also was 3rd in the 200 IM (2:01.46) and 400 IM (4:18.63).

She swam all four events at 2025 NCAAs. She won the Division II NCAA title in the breaststroke events posting a 2:08.59 to set a new NCAA record in the 200 breast with her win. She swam to a 1:00.06 to win the 100. She also was 3rd in the 200 IM in a 1:59.98 and 11th in the 400 IM.

Laegreid’s Best SCY Times:

  • 100 breast: 59.69
  • 200 breast: 2:08.59
  • 200 IM: 1:59.98

Laegreid will arrive this fall with three years of NCAA eligibility remaining. The Indiana women are coming off of a 2nd place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a program-high finish of 4th place at NCAAs. The team was led by senior Anna Peplowski who captured the NCAA title in the 200 free.

Based on her best times, Laegreid would have been second on the roster this past season in the 100 breast only behind senior Brearna Crawford (59.52). Crawford also led the team with a 2:05.66 200 breast that she swam for 3rd at NCAAs.

Laegreid’s best 200 breast time is already faster than what it took to make 2025 NCAAs at the Division I level. That cutline fell at a 2:09.58 while the 100 breast cutline was a 59.51. It took a 2:08.56 to make the ‘B’ final. Laegreid is the 2nd transfer to arrive with NCAA-invite times as Macky Hodges already announced her transfer from USC.
