NCAA ‘A’ finalist Adam Chaney will return to Florida for his COVID-19 fifth year, the school’s website shows. Chaney swam with Florida as an undergrad.
Chaney was the #7 ranked recruit coming out of high school, with the fastest 100 freestyle as well. He made an instant impact upon his arrival, winning the SEC title in the 50 free as a freshman clocking a 18.77. He also finished 2nd in the 100 back and 4th in the 100 free at 2021 SECs.
He went on to swim at 2021 NCAAs, finishing 3rd in the 50 free in a 18.88. He also was 9th in the 100 back with a personal best 44.74, bringing his total individual points to 25 points, the 3rd most of the Florida men who finished 3rd. He also swam on four of Florida’s relays, three of which finished 2nd at NCAAs. At the end of his freshman year, he swam at 2020(1) Wave II US Olympic Trials, with his highest finish coming in the 50 free as he was 5th.
As a sophomore, he won the SEC title in the 100 back swimming a 44.51. He also finished 3rd in the 50 free and 3rd in the 100 free to score 86 individual points, the 2nd most of the team.
He finished 3rd at 2022 NCAAs in the 100 back, swimming a 44.35. He also was 9th in the 50 free. In addition to his individual points, he also led the teams 400 medley relay to a new NCAA record as he split a 20.19 on the backstroke leg. The Florida men once again finished 3rd overall.
Defending his title in the 100 backstroke at SECs, Chaney swam to a 44.18, another personal best. He also was 3rd in the 50 free and 8th in the 100 free.
He swam at 2023 NCAAs with his highest finish being 4th in the 100 back (44.42). He also was 13th in the 100 free to score a total of 19 individual points, the 3rd most on the team as they finished 6th overall. He helped the team to two NCAA relay titles as they won the 200 free and 400 medley relays setting new NCAA records in both as well.
This past season, Chaney was 2nd in the 100 back (44.87) and 4th in the 100 free at SECs. He also made the C final of the 100 free finishing 17th.
He went on to swim at NCAAs, finishing 3rd in the 100 back in a personal best 43.99. He also was 15th in the 50 free as he scored 18 individual points to help the team to a 3rd place finish. He also was a member of the team’s NCAA winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.
Chaney’s return is huge for the Florida men as he has been one of the most consistent scorers during his career with the Gators at both the SEC and NCAA level. His return also means that all four members of the team’s NCAA record-setting 200 medley relay will return. Chaney swam the backstroke leg along with rising senior Julian Smith, rising junior Josh Liendo, and rising senior Macguire McDuff.
Florida has posted their 2024 Swim roster and Cheney is not listed. Is he looking to join in the second semester?

No he’s not on the roster at all. Jake’s going to be the only 5th year for Florida.

The Cal guys are gonna wait ‘till after SwimSwam writes a preview saying NCAAs is a three horse race between Texas, Indiana, and Florida before they announce, aren’t they?
I’d say it’s a given the Cal seniors are staying another year. I think their only big scorer that hasn’t was Hoffer?

Always knew he was a dawg back in ’19 Junior Worlds, everyone’s eyes were on Foster, Urlando, Matheny, Magahey, Curtiss for the U.S. and he dropped a 47.9 relay anchor which went pretty much unnoticed
