Hannah Miley and Robbie Renwick, two of the swimmers who are expected to representing Britain at the World Championships in Barcelona, tested themselves and their preparation in Glasgow this weekend at the Scottish Gas National Open Swimming Championships.
Miley, who is currently the top ranked swimmer in the world in the 400 IM won the 200 freestyle (2:01.07), 400 IM (4:41.74), 200 IM (2:13.05), 800 freestyle (8:45.91), 400 freestyle (4:14.04) and 200 butterfly (2:13.19). She also swam the 1500 freestyle, but the results from that race weren’t available.
“It is actually not too bad only two races each session,” said Miley when a reporter from Scottish Swimming asked her about her racing schedule. “I think there was one year I did 10 events, this is a nice relaxing meet for me.”
“It is all part of the process leading into trials.”
Hannah Miley: “It is going to be intriguing seeing how it goes at trials than into Worlds.”
Miley went to joke with the reporter when she asked her about how the timing of trials would effect her taper, she than asked the reporter “what is this T word?”
Miley did talk about how they are taking a page from the American’s book on preparation, placing the trials closer to the championship meet, “It is going to be intriguing seeing how it goes at trials than into Worlds, touch wood and everything goes to plan and I make the team.”
She also added that she thought that it was a good thing to “shake things up” and examine their preparation strategy.
Robbie Renwick: “Gunning for medals at the top of the sport is what it is all about.”
Robbie Renwick posted a season’s best time in the 400 freestyle swimming a 3:49.84, “3:49 is a good time for me, I have still been doing 6-7 km sessions all this week,” Renwick told the same reporter.
“That is what it is all about,” when asked about trials and his preparation for World Championships. “Just get myself on the World Championships team and competing at the highest level at World Championships is really why I am in the sport. Gunning for medals at the top of the sport is what it is all about.”
Kathryn Johnstone who also has a good chance of making the British team in the 100 breaststroke had a strong meet swimming a season’s best to win the 100 breaststroke posting a time of 1:08.53.
